Woman drowns in Pathum Thani canal in suspected suicide

BANGKOK: -- A woman drowned in Pathum Thani’s Rangsit canal On Sunday, with a suicide letter left on the pier in front of Prachatipat Witthayakhan School.

 

A boat passenger found the woman’s handbag on the pier in Pathum’s Thani’s Thanyaburi district and he alerted Pratunam Chulabhorn Police Station at about 8pm.

 

Scuba divers searched the canal and found the body about 50 metres from the pier.

 

The bag had a patient’s identification card belonging to Thammasat Hospital and a citizen ID card, identifying the woman as Lampian Sonwet, 46, a resident of Phetchabun province.

 

In the letter, he lamented that she could not afford to eat properly after suffering several illnesses.

 

Pol Lieutenant Suraphat Ratanatraiwong said police would contact the woman’s relatives to reclaim the body after an autopsy was carried out at Thammasat Hospital.
