uk visit visa phone interview mistake

Featured Replies

So last week me and my Thai gf took her application for a uk visit visa into vfs global Bangkok, 3 days later she received the call from immigration asking her many questions about the application. They asked her lots and lots of questions and she was clearly nervous and struggling with many questions - how long I was with my previous partner, the name of my business, my previous Thai gf's etc etc... The interview was in Thai and after the call had ended and I talked to her it was clear she had given different dates about our relationship to what was in the application (on my letter as a sponsor.) So I'm pretty sure the visa will be refused on these grounds, they may even see it as a lie and ban future applications for 10 years (worst case scenario). We will have to wait and see now what the result is, if it is just a refusal based on the conflicting answers I may re-apply stating this was an honest mistake.... anyway I feel they were at least considering a yes based on the call and I'm just hoping now we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot, I did my best to get her ready for the phone interview even getting my sponsors letter translated into Thai.... fingers crossed but expecting a refusal

I can never remember the specific dates that I met my wife so no great surprise if she was asked she would give a different answer.

I'm surprised your girlfriend was asked for details of your previous relationships, that is not something she would necessarily be expected to know.

Agreed. This sounds very odd

I believe a transcript of these interviews can be obtained.

possible reasons are my previous gf had 2 visit visas to the uk, Im presuming that came up when they searched my name???? although it wasn't me applying for the visa I am just sponsoring her visit

Possibly. They do check previous applicants sponsored by this applicant's sponsor.

I still remember back in 2000, when most applicants, including visit visa ones, were interviewed in person at the embassy. My wife, then girlfriend, and I were awaiting her visit visa interview when a very tearful girl came out from one of the interview rooms. She approached us and asked my wife if I could explain her refusal notice.

It basically said that she had applied for a visit visa as the girlfriend of Mr. X; but had failed to explain what had happened to Miss Y, who was also sponsored by Mr. X when she was issued a visit visa 6 months before!

Not implying anything in your case, of course; but they do check on serial sponsors; one reason being to protect naïve applicants from people smugglers.
