Myanmar driver arrested after two Thais killed in collision in Mae Sot
By The Nation

MAE SOT: -- A young man and his aunt were killed on Wednesday night when their motorcycle was in collision with a van from Myanmar in Tak’s Mae Sot district.

Police said the accident happened on the Asia highway near Makro shopping mall.

The two victims were identified as Kittikorn Sangkaew, 25, and his aunt, Sukham Sangkaew, 54.

Their motorcycle was hit when it was making a U-turn.

Police arrested the 30-year-old Myanmar driver.

No wonder Prauth is trying to make Thailand only for the Thais.  Next up he 'll start clearing out all the farangs.

" Their motorcycle was hit when it was making a U-turn."

yes, directly in front of the truck without looking.

i feel bad for the truck driver.

Their motorcycle was hit when it was making a U-turn.

U-turns are a MAJOR traffic hazard in Thailand, especially given the way Thais drive without looking (cars, trucks AND motorcycles).

Had the driver been Thai, unlikely he would have been arrested..

Boi am I glad all those hi-so's excessive speeding killing 2 people, drunk and high driving killing 9 in a van and what have you just get a slap on the wrist.

About time all this non-Thai scum all around get rounded up and tossed out. (Ir)relevant of any video footage showing innocence of whoever.

If the shoe was on the other foot.... would the dead Burmese family have to pay for the Thai's damaged pick up?

He started doing that immediately after the military take over.

"...Police arrested the 30-year-old Myanmar driver."

For what?  Driving down the road being Burmese?
I'm scratching my head trying to imagine any place here where a person initiating a U-turn has the right of way.

Vehicular homicide, hmmm, isn' that what Red BULL chump Boss committed? But he was not arrested. But arrest, charge, convict, incarcerate a foreign scape-goat, in an unfair, biased courtroom, with NO evidence of wrong doing.

Selective law enforcement at the discretion of the authorities, ALL controlled by persons of wealth.

Pretty hypocritical, and pathetic.

It does seem more than a bit odd,  but people died - so it makes sense to initially take into custody those involved.

Presumably the Burmese van driver stopped after hitting the 'bike (?) and it seems likely that he will be quickly released if investigations reveal (as also seems likely), the 'bike rider made a horrible mistake.

Being Thai gives them the right of way.

Still haven't issued a warrant for him abroad.

Contrary you should be consoling the Burmese driver and reassuring him that it was not his fault as when you are involved in a fatal crash you will tend to feel somewhat guilty as it couldn't have happened without you there. Even if it was his fault he shouldnt be arrested right away.

Second highest death rate in the world for cars and first for motorbikes would seem to contradict that eloquent and well thought out reply.....
