As far as I am  aware no SEA country issues  12 month+ tourist visas.

You can obtain a 6 month multi-entry tourist visa for Thailand.

I thought that the 6 month Tourist.VISA (METV) only availible in our own home-country..

Cambodia is the easiest. You can get a 1 year visa for about $350 that allows you to work as well if you want.

Do a search on Cambodia and you will get a lot of information. Not Thailand, but quite a few expats enjoying life ther.

there were some reports last year that vietnam was rolling out one year visas for citizens of certain countries (USA was one, my passport country).  i'm not sure what the status is now, maybe some here knows ?

i've been to cambodia and vietnam and find vietnam far better.  danang is my favorite city to stay in.  they have nonstop flights to bkk now so you could still make trips to thailand easily.

For a while, you could ONLY get a 1-year visa for Vietnam, as a US-citizen - but this has been fixed so that less-expensive shorter ones are available, again.  You can still get the 1-year one, too, for less than 1/2 the price of Cambodia's "ordinary" 1-year visa.   Policies for other passport-holders vary.  Some advise to get a Vietnam-visa in-advance, though - not just the "approval letter" + "visa on-arrival."
