The head of Bangkok's electrical generating authority has painted a rosy picture of the city's present and future.

Though his claims that there were no power cuts at all these days was questioned in some quarters.

Chaiyong Phuapongsakorn said that there are no power cuts in the city any more the only outages being those of a few seconds or even less.

And he said that the authorities performance would only get better as an "electronic" system was introduce to distribute power throughout the  capital and more cable were buried.

He told Daily News that revenue in the first half of this year was 94 billion baht and was expected to top 192 billion by year's end.

Thaivisa noted that there was a power outage of more than one hour in the Ratchayothin area of the city just this week though the cause of this outage could not be confirmed.

Chaiyong also commented on the ongoing burying of unsightly cables. He said this would further enhance the service for consumers.

He said that 41.9 kilometers of hanging wires had been put underground in central districts so far with plans to bury a further 172.7 kilometers' worth over the next five years.

Of course power cuts will be a thing of the past in Bangkok. More important, how much of Bangkok will still be habitable after this years coming floods? Up country we are flooded already, all rain for the next 2 months is going south .....

Silly thing to say, but Bangkok has less power outages than just about any city in the world  & for example

our main 500 kva  transformer blew up & I kid you not 52 minutes later had changed reconnected & threw in the pole fuses in the rain..... only in Thailand i assure you

The micro 2-3 seconds on of on off power cuts are quite bad for sensitive electronics.
In London England you can go literally years without a single second loss of power.

Here in Pattaya/Jomtien the power still regularly goes down
In a storm...and 2-3 second losses are quite frequent but "up time" has and continues to improve :D
