KORAT: -- An electric vehicle charging station was opened at the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) main office in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima on Thursday morning.

The station features “quick-charge” technology able to recharge the battery of seven-seat vehicle for a 100-km run in about 20 minutes. The system also uses a “multi-standard” (Chademo, CCS Combo 2, AC Type 2) charging socket.

Rerngsak Mahawinijchaimontree, chairman of the PEA board of directors, oversaw the opening ceremony. He said the station opening is part of the PEA’s plan to support the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy. Rerngsak said the PEA will open 11 vehicle charging stations around the country along major tourism routes and will launch an app to allow electric car owners to learn details about the stations.

He said two stations would be in the North, three in the South, two in the East, one in the West and two in the Northeast.

The stations will be open from 6am to 1pm and charges will be free until the end of this year.

Nakhon Ratchasima’s deputy governor, Murathathee Ratchartcharoen, and Boonlua Charoenwat, deputy mayor of Mueang Nakhoan Ratchasiam Municipality, also attended the ceremony.
