ATM giving what looks like counterfit notes

on Sunday I was on my way to have a few beers, so stopped at an ATM opposite the Temple by second road junction just up from the school

before you get to Tuc-com....I think it is outside a pharmacy, I have my transaction receipt but I was a bit concerned when I got home later to

discover one note had a rough edge? upon closer inspection it looked like it was woven? in near twenty years I have never seen this before

and I passed this note to my wife and she just shrugged and said yes ok but a bit worn? now I have to pay a bill today and my wife has just

said its ok but I am not one hundred percent although the rest of it looks perfect, has any one had any thing like this happen to them as I

am half a mind to take my receipt to the bank with the note and ask them to change it.

Your Mrs has said it's a worn note you have yet to experience any rejection so perhaps better go and try use the note before jumping to conclusions.

The 'standard' procedure is to take it to a 'bank' and let them authenticate the note.

You don't want to be caught passing counterfeit notes, even if you 'say' that's what the ATM gave you.

The worst that will happen is the police will take it away from you

I think you would be even more correct if you stopped your sentence there.

I had a damaged 1,000 baht note given to me from the atm once. It looked like zig zag cuts on the edge. I quickly used it at big c and got change from it. Most likely it's just damaged, try using it asap and if it doesn't work you got to go to the bank and tell them the story.

Buy something at a 7-Eleven and use the bill. The clerks would be no more concerned than your wife.  It's already passed through the scrutiny of the bank that owns the ATM without bothering them.

Hold it up to the light and look at the blank area on the left side of the newer issued notes or the right side on the older ones. If you can see the "hidden" image of the king, I very much doubt it's a forgery.

Quote

Watermark: HM King’s portrait watermark and the translucent watermark “๑๐๐๐” can be clearly observed by viewing the note against the light.
2 Color-shifting Ink with Latent Image: The color of Thai Ornament at the bottom left corner of the note will change from gold to green upon tilting, and the latent image of hidden numerals “1000” becomes visible.

Millions of people are passing counterfeit notes to people who are too stupid to even see it.

It seems that you do not know that banks INTENTIONALLY keep fake notes in the system because they do not want to pay for it !

Really ? someone trusting banks in 2017 ? No wonder why people are cheated all their life !

Exactly my point. If  they accepted it and passed it on, they're as likely to continue to do so ... assuming it is counterfeit, which is doubtful.

Not a question of trusting banks, although when it comes to currency transactions I doubt it's a rampant as you seem to imply.  I'm only saying that the system is unlikely to do anything about it since it's clearly not bothered them so far.

To be cheated there would need to be a cost to you. If you get a Baht 1000 and use it without problem, as will undoubtedly be the case with the O/P, how have you been cheated?

Assuming that every little thing in your daily life is  scam or that you're the target of some conspiracy is why drug companies make so much from the sales of anxiety drugs and psychiatrists are kept busy.5980479c3fa2a_underbed.jpg.42883b835e8fb45b93b99b2c318b4f1a.jpg "Save me from the nefarious banking machinations"

Since we're talking about Thailand, if you think millions of people are passing counterfeit notes, you might want to consider posting your comments before the happy hour rather than after.

I once got a very used note from an atm at Mega Bangna. I didn't like the note so went to the bank next door to change it to a new crisp note. They only asked why I wanted to change it.

I agree with a few others here.

First take it to the bank (the one that is associated with the ATM) to see if the bill is good.

I think doing this first before posting.

Its hard for us to give a knowledgeable opinion just based on just your description of the bill.

IMHO

I have a farang friend who went on holiday in Phonm Pehn, Cambodia and while walking around he spotted some US $100 bills in bundles with rubber bands (elastics, for the Brits)........ He bought a pack of about 50 (maybe 100). with a rubber band around the bundle, back to Bangkok on his return flight.....  He got thru customs without a check....... (Lucky)...........

Later over breakfast he showed me one he was carrying with him....... Then I explained what 'could have happened' to him at immigration/customs...

He had no 'ill intent' but 'what if' he had been checked and found to be carrying so many 'counterfeit bills ............

A lesson for all of us........... He was very lucky..................

This 'country bumpkin' was friends with a guy who had accidently printed a bunch of counterfeit $21 dollar bills.............. So this guy figured it would be smart to take the bills into local business's to change them............

He walks into a local shop and inquires, "can you change this $21 bill for me?............. The clerk responded:  :  : Would you like it as 3 $7 bills or 7 $3 bills??????
