PHUKET:-- A man who crashed when he was out delivering bananas in his battered old pickup truck this morning has said that he survived the accident due to his quick thinking and also a sacred amulet he had in is possession.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries after crashing the wrecked pickup outside of Phuket Bird Paradise in Chalong.

Chalong Police received a report of the accident on Soi Yod Sanae at 8:40am today (Aug 4).

If his battered old pick up was not so overloaded, he probably wouldn't have needed his <deleted> amulet !

One wonders why the sacred amulet didn't bestow the sense to drive to the road conditions, properly maintain ones vehicle and not overload said vehicle.

However sacred, there is a limit in helping stupid...

Certainly fortunate that he was able to get a low gear after he discovered brake failure.

all those green bananas,

and one brown skidmark

Probably there would be a new version of amulet engraved onto the pick up bonnet on the future.

Truck looks like a cut and shut salvage ... and a wreck.

What you talking about it will be back on the road tomorrow just wait and see

What a disgusting mess inside the truck, definitely not caused by the accident, but possibly a contributory factor to it.

Now the police will prosecute him for driving an overloaded vehicle, driving an unroadworthy vehicle, and.......oh sorry forgot where I was for a moment. Lucky no-one else was in the way.

Very strange accident!  I thought you had to be on top of the banana skins to skid that badly!

I can see that he made safty measures to not get any bananas in the back of his head. Would say that is the best quick thinking that man done in his life.

A Thai driver ........quick thinking !   Now we know he is lying !

You guys joke about these amulets but that is unfair. I carry my trusty Benny Hill amulet. It helps me at every soapy I have ever been to. :w00t:

Do any cars or, more relevantly, pickups, ever fail the Thai vehicle inspection?

Some don't even go to the inspection center, just take a rub of the VIN and pay a bit extra.

But yes, I have had fails if a light or horn not working. In the past they did not even check that but these last few years they have diligently check lights/horn, exhaust emmission level, and roller brake test. I was in and out last week in 5 minutes.

Why don't they give a free amulet with every paid drivers license? Stop the carnage, carry an amulet!
