A FORMER police chief and brother of a government minister is being investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) over suspicions he accumulated wealth in a suspicious way.

Also being targeted with Pol General Patcharawat Wongsuwan is his one-time assistant Pol Lt-General Boonruang Polpanich.

Patcharawat is a younger brother of Prawit, the Minister of Defence in the current Prayut Chan-o-cha government.

An NACC sub-investigative committee recently discovered that the two former police officers jointly owned a horse farm worth about Bt100 million in Kaeng Khoi district, Saraburi province, according to an inside source.

The committee decided to seek more information from witnesses or anyone else connected with horse farming.

In 2014, the NACC set up a committee to investigate the allegation after receiving a complaint about the two high-ranking policemen four years previously.

Patcharawat is also suspected of setting up a company, Somthawin Resort Partnership Limited, to hide his assets.

The resort is in Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan province, and is also said to be worth about Bt100 million.

Shareholders of the partnership include Somthawin Wongsuwan, Patcharawat’s wife and Navaporn Wongsuwan, his daughter.

NACC officers visited the resort in May and reported their findings to the subcommittee but said they were keen to find more evidence.

Patcharawat has just been acquitted by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders of using undue force to disperse a yellow-shirt street rally in 2008 during the  Somchai Wongsawat government.

In this case, Patcharawat, former premier Somchai, Chavalit Yongchaiyuth, former deputy prime minister and then Metropolitan Police chief Pol Lt-General Suchart Muenkaew, were accused in 2015 of dereliction of duty and malfeasance by the NACC, which held them responsible for casualties caused by the police operation against protesters.

Working so hard to hide assets,

but wait , innocent until proven, some people can make money very quickly with new ideas, inventions, investments, and inheritance, investigators "keen to find more evidence "        Once in the head lights it must be so hard to have them extinguished,

They are all crooked and most have graduated with a Master's Degree in Nepotism. Their degree of crookedness depends on where they are ranked on the great governmental distribution list.

Another red supporter becoming a whipping boy for the Shin's. He did not accumulate wealth unusually for Thailand. He did it the same way the Yellow supporters are doing it now.

Do you have any proof of his political affiliation, or do you assume he must be a red because he looks to be bent? As the complaint was lodged in 2010, the investigation started in 2014, and new evidence now uncovered, who do you suspect is driving his alleged political persecution?

Most people would be happy to see a corrupt (ex-)copper prosecuted.

I wonder why it took the NACC four years, to decide to investigate ? :whistling:

Ample time for them to hide, transfer or spend the money. No money no monkey house

TIT, I would guess they get a LOT of corruption allegations referred to them. And for a while they were a bit short on funding.

Interesting how all of the cases seem to involve red-shirts. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Meanwhile Somyot seem to be enjoying the unusual fruits of his labors. And is current Bangkok Police Chief Sanit still getting his stipend from ThaiBev?

Got to go back for another holiday trip. Maybe bring the misses or new young girlfriend.

The NACC has no track record in getting the big scalps.

They forgot the evidence at the soapy message and don't want to loose face by asking for it back?

What ever happened to the investigation of Prayuth's brothers finances and his family members construction business with the office address at a military camp?

All a misunderstanding. Expect this will be too.

Misunderstandings, something that they lead the world in.

That wouldn't be to difficult, just make a map with the name of all government officials in Thailand and throw a dart with eyes closed, and you have a hit.

What about all the other street level Thai Police officers who openly run bars, brothels, restaurants in upscale areas?....it is no secret for anybody to find which are the places? Why not investigate them, if necessary sack them and seize their ventures?

The 2 ex-cops cited in the OP are getting rammed as somebody feels that they did not distribute sufficient brown enveloppes...

The law is clear, it says:

"non-distribution of brown enveloppes or distribution of  inequitable brown enveloppes could lead to a fine and/or legal pursuit" . art. 1 of the social brown enveloppe misunderstang act.

The NACC is great at launching "investigations" -- though using that term probably does a disservice to the real meaning of an investigation.

But they're not quite so good at actually producing any results/indictments/convictions from their "investigations."  I often times think the whole process is just a charade to lead the public to believe that they're actually enforcing these laws, when in fact they're not.

Rubbish, they are being looked at because some influential ex PAD members have a gripe with them. Like I said in an earlier post the fact that the current deputy prime minister is big brother will ensure that it's all a misunderstanding.

The National Anti Corruption Commission .. there must be a mistake why do they need something like that in Thailand .. But maybe what they do need is a National learn how to accept constructive advice Commission or an Agency to learn how not to bristle with rage if someone suggests another way ..

All the more reason for Thai to replace English as an international language.
You see then we would all understand...
