Documentation needed to extend ED Visa at Jomtien Immigration

Featured Replies

What documentation is needed to take with with me to extend my ED Visa? I don't attend the classes via the school I obtained the Visa through, however I can speak Thai.

Initially the school was ran by Thais and we had agreed that the 3 months extension were ฿1900. Now Russian ran, the school has asked for me to pay ฿5000 to the school and they take care of everything .

The Russian lass had said if I wanted to renew it by myself. I would need an array of documentation including a passport copy of the owner of the condo I rent. I found this comical but please enlighten me in case I am incorrect.

You will not be able to get the extension without supporting documents from a school.

Immigration does ask for proof of residence which normally means a rental agreement with copies of the owners passport if they are not Thai and proof of their ownership

Oh dear !

You will need a pile of documentation from the school plus details of your class attendance record.

Nothing "comical" about Ed visa scams !

The unsurprising thing, here, is not so much the usual "no hassle" ED-Visa renewal package, offered by the school, with no attendance required (except on pre-warned 'surprise' immigration-visit days, I am guessing)  - but that it includes circumvention of address-reporting rules, which falls in the national-security side of things.   One would think the school would require their 'students' to at least submit the usual address-documentation.

It makes it seem as though all the hoops the rest of us jump through are nothing, in true-substance, but 'encouragement' to use paid-agents - and the hassles at the airport for those on TR and Exempt, just a scheme to 'encourage' people to use agent-procured visas.
