Metropolitan Electricity Authority workers started to remove electricity poles along Bangkok's Pradiphat Road on Wednesday as part of the agency's "smart metro" project to move electricity and communication wires underground.

The project's first phrase will involve an eight-kilometre section from the Lat Phrao intersection to the Victory Monument.

The concrete poles will be donated to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for its coastal erosion prevention project at Bang Khun Thien.

I hope their not going to run the cables in the sewer pits or are they digging or tunneling under the road or footpath and just wondering what they are going to hang the street lighting off if there is no poles ?

now if Bill Gates could make some negative comments about the Thai school system, dangerous roads and corrupt police we may get somewhere.

Now Somchai will have to dig to steal electricity for his noodle stall.

And you know they will too

Maybe they'll use drones for street lighting?

Worse.  Everyone will lose their cable TV connection as most of the wire we see up there are just cable TV wires.  I'll bet PEA are only going to bury their own wires not all the freeloaders on their power poles.

It always appears to me the the electric wires dangling everywhere pose quite a hazard. This has got to be an improvement. Anytime there is progress in Thailand, it is cause for celebration. Progress is a bizarre, rare, and peculiar idea here.

I assume that any cables buried in BKK, of whatever kind, will be in 100% waterproof tunnels or surrounds?

A groundless assumption?
