CHIANG RAI: -- A 2.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Chiang Rai’s Maesaruay district on Friday morning, the Seismological Bureau of the Meteorological Department said.

The mild quake happened at 8.12am and its epicentre was estimated at a depth of about 2 kilometres, the bureau said. No damage was reported.

On August 31, the bureau reported that a 3.7-magnitude quake had happened in the district at a depth of 5km.

Actually 7 small quakes since August in the Mae Suai / Mae Lao area, All in the same places where the aftershocks of the 6.2 occurred a few years ago

They seem to be coming near the border of Mae Suay and Mae Lao - right where the biggie cam that canuk was referring to.

We live about 50 km from there are have not felt any of the recent ones - but we DID feel several of the shocks three years ago (along with minor damage).

I live not far north of CEI and I am still waiting for the Maechan fault to give us another shake.

Amazing how the region has become seismically active,  my 85 year old father in law could not recall an earthquake prior to the 2011 Mai Sai quake.

Ditto - my father-in-law says he can remember one about 50 years ago (about 2510) that rocked the area.  Nothing before or since.
