  1. I knew I wasn't going back to the USA, IF TH didn't work out. Hindsight though, had I known housing prices would have shot up as much as they have the last 3+ years, I might have kept my houses. Although, that would have been a 20 year wait for that increase Since here 24 yrs. Who would have thought it could turn to sh!t that fast TH was a good choice, even without any research before arriving 🙄 Final decision to stay wasn't even made until about 2020. When we contracted to build 3rd house, and bought a car I actually liked, and not something I'd simply walk away from. 2020 and had no financial investment in TH, as basically liquidated all at that point. A true should I stay or should I go moment. Knew it wasn't back to USA. Even if wanted to, would be a challenge to return to USA, inflation & housing would eat up all the monthly pocket change. Even with healthcare insurances, a medical oops would bankrupt you.
  2. Good choice, as I like Phang-nga town, and only 45 mins from the surf (non touristy) if wanting. And a very nice spot it is for a sunset, with a few vendors around, 7-11 nearby, <4 kms, for your sipping pleasure. Or viewpoints of the Bay if wanting
  3. Nice and sunny out this AM, and already producing. About 12.5 hrs of non production, using ~37% or ~7.4kWh of our 20kWh ESS overnight. Usually not producing more than using in early AM this soon, but wife is still snoozing, so no fan or AC on, aside from in bedroom, set @ 24°C. Already warming up outside ... I already made my coffee VID_20240818_182002.mp4 VID_20240819_064936.mp4
  4. AND ... come to the DNC for 'free abortions' (fully booked) or a vasectomy. Solving the over population problem 👍👍
  5. Taking food from the baby ... ... you forgot steers farting, methane, and climate change, now you're killing us all. You give the steak back (if you notice), and what do they do ... eat it, take it back to restaurant, someone eat it, trash it, or sell it again. Same as @BritManToo I don't notice much till too late. If I do, I'll try to make the proper adjustment. The 7-11 thing, I'd tell them (if noticed), need to charge me, and if get too many blank stares or evil eye, well then, thanks, I tried. Employee didn't lose anything, so 7-11 is 100 baht short this week. Oh well Getting change, I don't count just make sure notes part is correct as they are counting, as usually breaking a 1000 baht note. That's close enough.
  6. That's another reason we like the EV, as it gets us out of the house me. We'll go check out a new restaurant or coffee shop with a view, just for the hell of it. Up to 100 kms way, since it doesn't cost anything. With an ICEV, the petrol cost more than the meal or coffee & Danish. Our first year of owning the EV, we racked up 20k kms, half of that was away from home, needing hotels & charging station. The other half was local, with more than half of that, 6k kms, exploring locally, away from the house, 50-125 kms away. Even our local daily driving is a bit unnecessary, as I simply drive the dog to the park or surf, only 4 & 5 kms away. I could just walk her down the soi. We live out 5 minutes away from everything we need. Once a week or 2 weeks to stock up would be sufficient. Since it doesn't cost anything, we're out & about a lot. If you could find something you like, or just sell the ICEV, and pick up a new NETA V, that would work, if in the budget. I'm not a fan of used. But sure lots of folks are upgrading, since a lot more & better options are available now than 2 yrs ago. Many with low kms, and little to no battery degradation. Ours had a <0.6%, as I calculated it at, basically nothing, after the first 14 months. BYD Atto 3 was the only thing (SUV) hitting the market when we got our MG ZS. Now there's a bunch of choices, sedans that is.
  7. Wouldn't have bought the EV version if the govt didn't pay me ฿240k to buy it. As was very happy with the ICE version of the ZS. Having solar contracted to be added to the house, also was a motivator. ฿240k & solar, hard not to get the EV, even though taking a small hit on selling the 2 yr old ICE version, with only 40k kms on it.
  8. I would have kept it, and hopefully enjoyed it. Only because, I don't think I've ever checked a delivery order, before paying and they scooted away. If it looks and feels about right, I just accept it. Yea, I know, so far, so good, no oops yet. Usually it takes longer to get here, than hoped, and I'm too hungry to delay eating to bother checking 😎 On honesty .... don't expect a nice stack of money to be given back to you. Emphasis on 'nice stack', as I do make correction when not charged or given too much change ... usually, as mood dependent, and if a person or corporation will be at the loss.
  9. Build on a swamp, or end of river 'delta', and it can only support so much weight ... Pretty hard to get rid of water, when you're sitting on top of ... oh well
  10. I keep my (brother's) USA address at my brokerage (Fidelity) as my company pension gets deposited into it. Social Security goes straight to BBL, and SS & IRS are aware of that, obviously, using TH home & PO Box addresses.
  11. Only time I ate in school cafe, was Wednesday, Hoagie Day. Usually got 2 or 3, go to the park adjacent to the Convent behind our school. Wash down with wine, and a few doobies. Needless to say, we missed a lot of Wednesday afternoon classes. Which was the norm, as the movie theater's matinee (cheap price/50 cents) changed on Wednesdays also. So if not at the park stoned, then at the movies ever couple weeks when new flicks came in.
  12. If looking for a new car, now is a great time to buy, ICE or EV, as one hell of a price war going on in TH. Highly recommend you check out the MG promotions on MG site. Need to click on promotions, as the site doesn't show the prices on front page, when selecting car model ... kind of strange. Everything listed, I'd definitely take over any comparable JP badged POS made in TH. Goes for BYD, GWM, NETA ... JP is falling so far behind with their junk, mind boggling. Still riding that old fake dependably reputation that died a long time ago ... IMHO When the tires fall your car, does make you wonder Strange the promo for MG4 is actually up ฿10k from last promo.
  13. didn't know you were asking for that ... don't you have google EV on sale now for August Got to keep up with that BYD Atto 3 pricing And mine is insured for ฿840k ... kind of wish someone would steal it, and we'd get a new one
  14. Really For some reason, can't access MG TH, go figure, think I need to restart laptop.
  15. From 'my post' And not from me ... ... think you need a number adjustment
  16. That's a first, and popped out of the pan, without falling apart ...
  17. A very wee bit of research, and a well planned retirement avoids all that silliness in the OP. An intelligent person would live in TH, or foreign country, for at least 1 year, before burning their bridges in home country.
  18. MG ZS EV cost ฿869k on rotating sale (as low as ฿829k), and ฿949k when not on sale. So you may need to adjust those numbers, as only 70k or 30k more if lucky enough to follow the sale and snag one on sale. So ฿224k is way off. And if people are counting pocket change when making big purchases, maybe they should get a Ciaz or Wuling Air. Or stick to a MC, Ebike or bicycle. Maybe walk and lose a few kgs. Certainly wouldn't hurt a few too many folks that I see
  19. Reference to ? If you mean charging at home, yes, some is lost, but I also used ฿5/kWh/unit, which I don't think any homeowner is charged, unless really abusing the AC for a large house. I don't think we've been charged ฿4/kWh/unit in the last 2 years, though our largest PEA bill was only 111 kWh/units, I think. (Sept 2023 / 3.9 per kWh)
  20. Oh yea, and if you live in a hilly area, it will use much less energy, as the regen is amazing. When at Khao Kho, Phetchaburi and especially Bo Kluea, Nan, we were actually adding kms to the range, for short distance through the hills. Even during a short stretch of road between Doi Inthanon Nat Park and Mae Chaem, Chiang Mai, we were actually adding more than using ...
  21. First year, we drove just shy of 20kms, and IF, all local driving. Actual comparison (ball park) of MG ZS ICE vs EV .. for about the 10th, maybe 20th time posting. Cost to go 20k kms of local mixed driving (30-60-90 kph) ~฿52.4k .. MG ZS ICE using 91 @ ฿36.68 per L / today's price ~฿13k ... MG ZS EV using PEA @ home, rounded up @ ฿5/kWh/unit ~฿0 ... MG ZS EV using Solar @ home Actually that works for 90kph on the highway, if you can manage that, though we average 70-80 kph when O&A. Longest stretch of 90 kph consistently is PKK to Pranburi (first traffic light) when headed to Hua Hin or Krung Thep. Then it's mixed driving, 30-60-90-110 kph. Southward from PKK to Chumphon, forget where 1st traffic light is. No 120 kph speed limits southbound, so 90 kph max, if & when possible. Rare when close to Chumphon or beyond. Y'all can bookmark this, or save photo below for future, repetitive, quite annoying, reference.
  22. Might not be considered low carb / low sugar ... oh well
  23. 6200 watts = 6.2 kilowatts, and should be subtracting about that amount from the meter per hour, if holds. Take a photo (or write down) what meter is, then do again in an hour. Just make sure meter reader doesn't see it spinning backwards. Don't ever spin it back past your last meter reading I've spun back 20-30kWh in a day, as tester of course. Irrelevant, as when they replaced our temp meter, it was replaced with a digital, as all new construction is here/PKK. Inverter told me I spun back 158kWh in 8 days (test) days, if memory serves. Lower 'purple' is export, and all excess I could run another house with our excess solar, on sunny days, and that day was cloudy, hence the peaks & valleys.
  24. Me ... installed 2 yrs ago @ 67 yrs old, and knocking on 70 come December. I'm more just being spiteful to PEA ... no more baht for them. Same with owning EVs, no more baht for big oil. Hate monopolies, though the better performance of the EVs was worth it alone. Being a spiteful old fart has it's advantages 😎 Independence is amazingly gratifying.
