  1. If the newest models (2022) are out, why not buy now. Unless looking at an EV, then waiting 6 months or so may be worth it, as news-blips of less taxes, maybe incentives, at worse, a few new models to chose from. MG & GWM seem to be the front runners for EVs, full or hybrids at the moment, unless going high end. Also offer ICEs. What are you actually looking for ? Inexpensive entry level sedans, small, from ฿330k (Suzuki Celerio) and up to about ฿600k +/- for larger entry model sedans & small mini vans, 'made in Thailand' models. Most < ฿700k, unless top end model of, with more added option than most need. Then imports start at ฿700k and up, larger engines, better fitted out, and soundproofing / less road noise for out & abouts. Then a bit comfier SUVs, smaller to larger, in the ฿700k to 1 mill range and up for the larger 7 psgr models. if actually needing / wanting that much vehicle. Larger usually imports and price accordingly. Plenty of practical trucks out there, if having the need. Made in Thailand models keep the pricing down for them, with imports adding quite a bit at times. Some worth the extra, some not. This site gives a ballpark idea of specs & pricing, and can compare models before making the rounds to the dealers. Find it always best to shop specs first, and they are usually fairly accurate on the website. Cross reference anything that catches your eye with dealer sites & reviews. https://www.zigwheels.co.th/en/compare-cars Happy Shopping.
  2. I find the roads here, especially between Krung Thep and Phuket to be excellent, with an occasional bad batch now and then, usually awaiting resurfacing, which is actually done in a timely manner, of late. Simply paying attention and driving the speed limit will avoid any unpleasantries, and on that, the speed limit is 80 kph for smaller motorbikes and 400cc+ allowed 100 kph. Sometimes dropping to 60 or even 30 through towns along the way for all vehicles. If having a larger scooter, do be properly registered / tagged, as there will be checkpoints along the way. It's a lovely drive once below Hua Hin / Pranburi. From Sam Roi Yot and beyond. On a scooter, I'd allow at least a week if not more, both directions, to really enjoy the ride. Actually surprised all the 'not so positive' comments. Apparently most have not driven the routes, or simply don't know how to enjoy their time traveling. For me, us, the journey is the adventure as much or more sometimes than the destination. My days of riding more than 1 hr on a MB, are behind me. Although when first arrive, 6 hrs day trip wouldn't be strange, on my H. Sonic 125. Below Prachuap Khiri Khan (RTAF Wing 5 / Ao Manao) and beyond, and many of the beaches are quite swimmable when the surf is cooperating. A couple decent waterfalls along the way, free or almost free, no silly entry fees. Could easily spend a short week / long weekend in any of the provinces along the way, depending which route taken. 3 different routes once below Chumphon. Our favorite direction, southward, when out & about. Has everything, better than what's north of us, IMHO, with beaches as an extra plus. Some of the most spectacular, diverse landscape.
  3. Ah, yes, but the saying (in American) .... "Definition of 'couldn't care less could care less' couldn't care less could care less or could care less PHRASE If you say that you couldn't care less about someone or something, you are emphasizing that you are not interested in them or worried about them. In American English, you can also say that you could care less, with the same meaning." Next time, think before posting ... just a suggestion. ???? Bob's your Uncle https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/couldnt-care-less
  4. Agree, but he / they, did put himself / themselves in that position. Only Buddha knows how much Epstein extorted from all his clients. Amassed quite the fortune for just being a pimp to the elite. A recognized face, doing what some, themselves feel is socially unacceptable, ashamed of, expect to be blackmailed sooner or later. For the blackmailer, it's high risk game, as many would make the problem simply disappear, once & for all.
  5. Yea, I get that. I just have a hard time not paying myself about 4 or 5k baht an hour just to sit there, and that's if it takes 2 hrs. I think that's about the cheapest ballpark price for agent, 8-10k ... if ... having all require docs & financials. Plus gives me a reason for a day out to another city.
  6. " I had heard that it’s generally thought to be quite dangerous to ride motorcycles long distances in Thailand." Only as dangerous as your driving ability, or lack of. Don't see much difference between driving 2000 kms in 5-10 days, vs 30+ days locally. Actually safer IMHO, as less cross traffic and people in 'rush hour' doing just that. Added bonus of 90 % of the trip is divided highways. Keep the drive at daytime hrs, and less risk of drunks. Frankly I don't see how people get in accidents, if obeying the law. OK, they would be the real, rare accidents, but those speeding, are simply accidents waiting to happen, along with those not driving extremely defensively. 20+ yrs, been around the country more than a few times, and yet to have someone hit my vehicle, whether car or MB, or bicycle. Not sure it's all about luck, as many have tried to commit suicide on my vehicle, I simply chose to prep & avoid them. ????
  7. Just because something is filed in civil court doesn't mean it's not a crime. Civil is more about compensation. It's always about the money. Success for 2 opportunist; he got his jollies off, she got compensated for it. Only negative I see, is people think it's news-worthy. Well, just the news / distraction creating folks do, and .... hook line & sinker. Win win wins all around.
  8. Or simply being a royal, is enough not to be charged, as many would like to keep their career. Along with, since a prostitute, they thought finding a jury to convict would be a waste of legal proceedings and why bother. Pretty hard to prove 'forced' when repeated servicing him in different locations. Photo opts don't show any 'forcing' going on. What prosecutor would even think about taking & losing that case.
  9. " I am pretty sure I have to pay tax/duty." Not necessarily, as recently many of mine have stopped at Thai customs, and no duty assigned. Actually surprised, as a couple were both large and or expensive (> $30 / ฿1000). Good luck. Though delivery was never preceded by any paper notice, just track stating waiting to clear.
  10. Or...people could actually take responsibility for themselves, AND look before crossing the street.
  11. Go electric ... "Save the Planet" ???? Not only step through, but plenty of storage for the shopping adventure. Or become a Panda delivery-person.
  12. I still got 1 rai left, 2 sides still farmland. Offering at 850k, trying to talk her into letting it go for 650k, as I want to spend on silly c r a p. Only paid 120 for it. The farmland around will probably never be sold, and why we bought.
  13. Not 90 day, but headed to IMM tomorrow, with the required 100+ pieces of paper to ext my marriage visa. Sadly, if a retirement visa, it would only be about 25 less pieces submitted (lease, owner's ID, Blue book, marriage cert & certified verification & wife's ID & house book X 2). Although I'll probably still need wife's info for retirement, since yellow book will be from her blue book. Only thing different, no need for witness with retirement visa & issued day of applying. All fairly easy to do still, just silly & redundant paperwork. Not that they don't have 80 copies of the same from prior years.
  14. That's 1 opinion, apparently the prostitute & Andy realize the opposite. "Virginia Giuffre v. Prince Andrew is a civil legal action in which Virginia Giuffre (née Roberts), a woman living in Australia as of January 2022, has sued Prince Andrew, Duke of York, son of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms alleging that she was forced to have several sexual encounters with the prince in the early 2000s at the age of 17, after being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein.[1][2] Andrew has denied Giuffre's claims. The two parties reached an out-of-court settlement in February 2022, and the case is set to be closed without going to trial." UK definition of a minor: "In England and Wales and in Northern Ireland a minor is a person under the age of 18" Where that falls within any civil or criminal law, I don't know or care.
  15. Age of consent, and 'flying to have sex' or 'paying' to have sex with a minor is a felony in many countries. USA for example, has strict laws against being a tourist for sex with minor, so if busted overseas, and USA gets wind of it, expect to be charged on your return. Being outside USA territories or airspace doesn't matter, or so I read. Also age of consent, in many countries, is applicable to someone within a few years of same age. Along with, parental permission to marry. Sex with a minor may still be a felony, if outside the 'allowed' rules. Paying for, makes a huge difference also. On other comments, calling her / prostitute, or any of them victims, is a stretch. Along with why drop the case, if a criminal case ... if nobody to testify, then no case, hence the payment for silence, and surely an NDA.
  16. Didn't know they abolished it, as most of the land in Thailand is NOT (red) chanoted.
  17. Sadly, there will never be a reduction in orphans. Thankfully, some irresponsible people that had children, are responsible enough to realize, they can't (for whatever reason) raise them, and give them up. A blessing for many, self included.
  18. Ditto, my USA debit card also no fee & reimburses (and now, doesn't even show) the silly Thai bank fee on statements. In the past, it had 2 transaction, withdrawal + reimbursed fee.
  19. Less people in the world is definitely a good thing. I never contributed to the population, as never had a partner I considered 'mother material', or thought I had enough time to devote to raising a wee one, till after I retired. Figured a child deserves both, along with having enough finances, though latter was never a problems, as I have always to have enough, and if needed, always found more. Too many have children when unprepared, mentally and or financially. Lose lose for all involved.
  20. Idiots will start asking how to get to Bangkok from Krung Thep ... ????
  21. Moral of story ... always ask for ID before paying your hooker. Just because they act like a consenting adult, doesn't mean they are, unless that's what you wanting, in which case ... som naa na.
