My Thai Wife has a UK 6 Month Multiple Entry Type C Visitor Visa, which is marked duration of stay 180 days, in her Thai Passport.

This Visa was issued on the 9th of April 2017 and expires on the 9th October 2017.

My question is that if my Wife enters the UK on say the 1st October 2017, does she get up to 180 days stay, or does she have to exit the UK before the 9th October 2017?

First this.

"Visit visas allow stays of no longer than 6 months (or 180 days) per visit."

And this.

"Please note that upon the expiry of your visa, you are required to leave the UK. If you stay beyond the expiry of your visa, you will remain illegally in the UK and you will be considered an “overstayer”. This may have an adverse impact on your immigration record and is likely to affect any future UK immigration applications."

To summarize, visas are valid for an unlimited number of journeys within the validity period of the visa. People holding visit visas can only remain in the UK for a maximum of six months on any one visit, or until the visa expires if less than six months.

Ok, thanks for that - so in my Wife's case, the 9th of October 2017 would be her latest exit date.

The advice you've been given by the two previous posters is of course spot on, if your wife did enter on the 1st of the month with a visa expiry date of the 9th she should expect the Border Force Officer to ask for evidence that she will be leaving before her visa expires, she might like to preempt the question by handing the officer her return ticket and saying that she only intends to stay for X number of days.

Thanks for that, but my wife will apply for a fresh UK Visitor Visa and we will then plan our travel accordingly.

Due to circumstances, this last UK Visitor MKE Visa has thus ended up unused, but hopefully we will not have any issues applying for a fresh one.

For us, we both live in Thailand with our 2x UK Dual National kids and were thinking about taking them to the UK for 3x weeks during the school holidays, but it's really not worth the expense for us all to travel to the UK just for a few days.

I think that's a wise decision, I'm sure you know to take as much care with the next application as you did with your earlier ones, some people have taken things for granted and not prepared subsequent applications and then been refused.

Have a good trip.
