Chinese Grocery in Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Hi, Anyone know of a Chinese grocery or back alley shop here in Chiang Mai? Looking for Black bean, Szechuan and Doubanjiang sauces...

Talking to a Chinese lady yesterday who was saying there are now over 2000 Chinese families in Chiangmai mainly schooling children in addition to hundreds of others doing business legally and illegally

So, if you don't get the answer I can ask in the Chinese community for you.

From what I have seen, 7-11 seems to be the main PRC Chinese grocery. :giggle:

Tops carries bottles of salted, fermented back beans. Usually lower shelf in the spices isle, near the salt. Rimping often has Shisen Tobanjan ( Szechuan style)   in the Japanese section. Both Rimping and Tops carry Hoisin sauce, Quilin Chili paste, and one or two others in the Lee Kum Kee line (in Tops, on the upper shelve between the dry spices and the Thai pastes)

I haven't seen any Chinese grocery stores open up. I had high hopes for the Korean Grocery Store on Sridornchai, as we like the condiments and so forth. We went a few times and were disappointed. I stopped by recently and it looks like they will be out of business any day now.

I agree with the recommendations for Tops and Rimping.
