52 arrested in crackdown as police focus on black migrants and tourists

Immigration, narcotics and 191 police jointly searched 10 locations in Bangkok early on Monday and arrested 52 Nigerians, Tanzanians and Uzbekistanis on various charges.

 

The operation was led by Pol Maj-General Surachat Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau.

 

The searches were jointly launched by over 200 policemen from the Immigration Bureau, the Patrol and Special Operation (191) Division and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.

 

Two of those arrested were charged with unlawful entry to the kingdom, 11 with overstaying their visas and 27 with suspicion of being involved in drugs trafficking, Surachet said.

 

One of the suspects was charged with deceiving Thai women in a romance scam and another with smuggling a banned good.

 

Surachet said police were keeping an eye on groups of black migrants and tourist because, he alleged, many of them had carried out various crimes in the kingdom, including using skimmer device to clone ATM cards, money laundering and involvement in human and drugs trafficking.

 

Surachet said one of the arrested had been previously jailed and released for being in possession of cocaine. He would investigate why the suspect had not been deported, said Surachet.

Surely that is a joke? deceiving in a romance scam, not only done by Thai women, but also to them, priceless.

of obtaining monetary or property gains is a criminal offence punishable

by 5-10 in jail, and that that goes for ALL nationals... 

Well done. 99% are here for dubious reasons. Deport the lot.

Indeed but a monetary donation to the court poor box or police social club fund strikes out that punishment in the Thai parallel criminal code.

If just say 10% of all black Africans coming to thailand commit crime and overstay visas, racial profiling I would say is justified

For once racial profiling focuses on a particular colour of Farang. Well at least it means less watchful eyes on the traditional colour! And of course it's always the poor Thai being exploited and never a Thai woman taking anything!

Absolutely. The last time I walked in the side-streets of Nana, I was offered everything from boys to cocaine. And the people of colour doing the business, I would not wish to tangle with. Two streets were total ghettoes. No police to be seen. Even a big boy like me was feeling nervous.

Living in a country where racial profiling is OK is kinda OK.

 

 

It’s about time the authorities started to act against the gangs of Africans that have started to take over lower Sukhumvit road in the last couple of years.

Walking between sois 15 and 5 after dark you’ll get asked aggressively a dozen times by these low life criminals whether you want anything from them.

Anyone who cries racial profiling is either ignorant, not been to lower Suk recently or is an African street hustler.

Has their problems been solved?

As long as it is not a Thai doing the deceiving then it is Baht 200 and forgotten

I think it's poorly worded. There are certainly a group of tourist/visa holders from certain African countries who are easily seen in the areas from about Soi 13 up to Soi 3 who are clearly involved in drug trafficking and prostitution. I think they are now being targeted. This week anyway :) 

 

Given their nations of origin most are black. But they aren't specifically being targeted for their skin colour. As a former resident of Soi 13 I'd add that they operate openly and with apparent impunity. So we'll see how long this is sustained.

The proof is in the pudding. Walk around the lower Sukh Sois, and listen to the offers (pretty much exclusively by the targeted guys). Let's be realistic here: what's the chance of anyone coming from present-day Africa with enough legal money to be an actual tourist? Yes - a few might be football players or even language teachers, but you sure as hell aren't going to find them on lower Sukhumvit Sois. Time to get over some of that PC; racial profiling has it's place here...

Most of the Africans seen hanging around Sukhumvit are crooks. Deport all of them. End of.

 

The fact that the raids turned out so well proves the point.

Blacks aren't farang. They use more colourful words for them  

 

If anyone involved in crime, should be finger printed before deported them back, if it is minor violation like overstay, or other suspicious activity.

 

So, it will be easy to verify, in case if they come back with another passport later. If they caught second time coming, should be jailed.

 

I authorities taking finger prints while leaving, would the criminals afraid of coming back, but we don't know they would send another one for the same reason, if they have connections with international crime network.

 

I remember last time, they rounded up a Church on Sunday morning and arrested lot of them. That questions the religious freedom in Thailand.

And so Thailand keeps it's PC approach  

 

Can you imagine the UPROAR in the US or Europe?  targeting blacks?

It's obvious if most crime is undertaking by any specific group then they should be targeted more but you can't do that these days in US.  The PC/CNN screaming crowd will crucify you as non-PC and a member of the KKK etc.
