Thousand of tourists complaining but Thais doing a great job, say Thai Rath

Many Chinese tourists complain to their authorities about problems in Thailand when they get home but Thai Rath said that issues of crime and tourism development are being addressed.

 

In a long, rambling feature they singled out tourism police commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Surachet Hakpan for particular praise with many smiling pictures of the chief touring the kingdom eradicating crime and providing assistance.

 

Much of the article focused on the problem of "zero dollar" tours that offer below cost price tours to Thailand then fleece tourists once they are here by diverting them to certain businesses operating outside the reach of the evenue department.

Several high profile arrests have been made in this regard and Thai Rath said that much has been achieved with liaison with the Chinese in running the illegal websites and operators out of business.

 

But figures show that people are still complaining in large numbers after trips to Thailand.

 

The head of the Chinese national tourism body (CNTA) Mrs Jang Ching Hong said that in the past two years up to September 2017 they had received 2,671 complaints.

 

This represents about a fifth of all complaints received from Chinese people travelling abroad.

 

Top of the list was not getting services they thought they had paid for. Being compelled to buy sub-standard products was another.

 

Both are features of the problem of "zero-dollar" tours, said Thai Rath.

 

Thai Rath's "crime team" who generated the article said that much good work had been done to follow demands from the Thai prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and his deputies.

 

This had meant improvements in tourism development, public relations, confidence of tourists and cooperation with the Chinese authorities.

In the defense of the police and law enforcement agencies can be said

that they have tried to tackle  and arrest the problems but the Thai

justice system and the courts saw no faults with the way the zero

dollar tour people

have been conducting their business and thus the police are now

powerless to do anything about these complaints....

That headline does not make sense,if they had been doing a good job ,they would

not get so many complaints,the seem to be putting the blame on Chinese tour operators,

It depends how its measured. In Thailand it appears that rather than using complaints as a measure of success they prefer to focus on how many times the leadership can appear in photo-ops.

During my life span never been any where that was perfect. Years ago while in London the London Times does an article on why the majority of tourist never came back. The research showed it was the general lack of customer service, and a lack of feeling welcome that kept many tourist from returning.

I took a zero dollar tour but I didn’t get what I paid for! lol

Maybe their should be a survey taken the other way, give everyone a chance to lodge a complaint about the Chinese rudeness and disrespect on display most of the time they’re in the country.

Chinese tourists buy Chinese zero dollar tours then complain about the Thais? Yeah that makes  sense.

Why not include a column in a departure card, and rate number of *s as review, and allow the tourist to write something, so that authorities would know if someone have a complaint.

 

Promoting sabai-sabai smile not reaching all coming here. Another problem is too many tourists coming here. The services are not enough, but in between, Thai government is cracking down illegal immigrant workers, so they are lack of resources for services, either have to pay more salary for Thais. I have spoken to some of them, Thai's receive 40% more salary for 50% less work.

 

So, Thailand should understand employing immigrant laborers for efficiency.

They are doing a very good job fleecing every tourists within their 500 meters radius, hence the complains??

It is happening everywhere in SE Asia, not just Thailand.  Is it illegal to lease hotels, buy and operate buses, and invest in restaurants ?  The only illegal activities will be evading taxes or corrosion.  Without proving that, not much you can do but beat them at their own game.  If you want Chinese customers, go to China.  Waiting passively for them to come and spend money is not going to work.

Basically what you saying it is OK for businesses to employ immigrants at a lower wage ( as they come from poorer countries) to boost profits . 

 

Explotation.. - to buy that wonderful new S class Mercedes.

 

My Thai friends work hard - to support their families. I’m not some leftie anti capitalist or trade union nut- it’s the total greed of business people.

Two things come to mind on topic;

 

1.  Free is worth exactly what you pay for it.

2. The zero baht tours are run by (wait.., ), Thais of Chinese descent.

Ever watch "Australian Border Security" on TV?  90% of Chinese sign immigration card answering "No food" yet so many have cases an cases full of food. Love the Chinese . Make me laugh. They lie and smile when busted. No speak English! Immigraion card in Chinese. Totally great show as it depicts Chinese nature.

The Times is often referred to as the London Times to differentiate it from the New York Times, The Washington Times etc. There we go - you've learned something today and can go to bed wiser than when you woke up. Always a good thing.

The zero dollar tours are an old Japanese game, but the Japanese demanded quality the same as home (very high). The Chinese are new to travel, however sharp they are at home (which's still a bit rough). They got cheated, local guides were cheated and eventually tour companies. So it stopped. Not too bad considering all the "influences" at work to delay the police.
