Paypal for cash?

Featured Replies

Hi,

just landed in Chiangmai, here in Thailand for about 3 weeks.

i lost my travel money Card in Malaysia, which let me withdraw with no bank fees.

now I have to use Barclays Bank card which will mean 220thb thai fee plus 1.50gbp bank fee PLUS 2.75% fee on every withdrawal, and a max limit of only 12k baht per withdrawal! This is pretty eye wateringly expensive...

is is there anyone in Chang mai who could give me like 30k-40k baths cash or something and I can Paypal you the same amount?

id throw in a fee for your trouble.

We we could meet in a public place. I'd show you the transfer on my phone, would be all legit, not trying to scam anyone just don't want to get ass blasted by the banks.

A long shot shot I know but worth a try.

You may have more luck if you trust someone to give you whatever clears into their account the day or so after you make the transfer.......

Don't use the ATM.  Go inside the bank (recommend Bangkok Bank) & make withdrawal via the teller.  You'll avoid the atm fee, but not those from your bank at home.

I think if you go to a bank with card and passport costs are lower and you can draw more money, maybe.

It would take 3/4 working days but how much would the cost differential be if you were to use Western Union or similar to transfer cash to yourself here in CM.

The UK card has it's own limit.  in his case of apparently 300 Pounds.  The Passport/bank teller way will not change that limit per 24hr transaction.

Usually you can get a replacement card by Fedex in a few days.  Why is the lost card not being replaced promptly?

Why don't people travel with emergency cash in their sock anymore?

Excellent, the OP should pop a few Vals and have no worries about the small charges to get his money here.  Enjoy the trip.

Meet a traveler in a public place. New to TVF with 2 post count. Give him Cash  30-40 thousand Bahts in exchange  for a PayPal payment. He shows you the transfer on his phone. You"ll never hear from him again. Days later PayPal deducts money from YOUR account after the hack or false transfer to the travelers' account is discovered and the traveler is gone with the cash.

A scam.

Totally not a scam, afaik a Paypal transfer is final and I wouldn't know how to reverse it. Like i said, it's a long shot, but I heard CM has a lot of 'digital nomad' types and expats so I figured someone might be able to help. I'd do whatever was required for the cash holders peace of mind.

no point getting a replacement card sent out as the fee for a replacement sent here is quite high and will take a while to arrive anyway. I have money just no good way to get at it!

i might try the bank counter thing, I think the limits are higher than those at an ATM, whether or not a thai bank will accept a Barclays card I don't know...

The ATM limit at most Thai banks is greater than your 300 Pounds sterling ATM debit card limit you say your card has (500 pounds is the 'normal' max limit in the UK.  To increase that Limit you will need to Phone Barclays to get it Increased. (some banks will allow up to 2000Pounds but be aware the limit can only be applied up to 12PM Midnight on the day of your phone call)

PS;  The above works for ATM use in the UK, whether Barclays allow this for use in ATMs here in CM I do not know.

ummm  sorry, but a PayPal transaction is NOT final.  It can be overturned quite easily by the "buyer", claiming duresas or all sorts of ailments.
