Samut Prakarn police yesterday(Oct 31) arrested several lottery vendors after they sold lottery tickets higher than the government-controlled prices.

Among the arrested vendors are Ms Pawanrat and Mrs Sawadee Kachenharn. They are charged for overpricing lottery tickets which is subject to one month imprisonment and 10,000 baht fine at maximum.

The police, however, fined them 5,000 baht each. But they couldn’t afford the fine and are later put behind bar.

Why is it always the small fish that are caught and imprisoned and not the dealers that originally sold the tickets at above face value?

Why is when you go into 7/11 you can buy 1 item for 80 baht but if you buy two they don't ask you for 200 baht.?

Probably because the bar code reader scans and then displays the price on a screen for all to see.

Not as I ever bought a lottery ticket. Don´t believe in that shit.
However, it´s nice to se that they get slammed for continuing charging too much.

Lottery tickets, underarm deodorant, washing up liquid whatever, I don't care what the wholesale price is or the seller's profit. It, each ticket, has 80 baht stamped on it.

That's what should be paid.

Most asking 100 now, how long before it's back to 120 again?

You should know that there are no more dealers. Thet buy them straight from the lottery

If this is advertised on local TV news and blasted throughout the cities by megaphone, that the price is 80 baht and only 80 baht, maybe, just maybe, people will start selling them like they should.  In anther post I mentioned a guy that has a stand on Pattaya Tai with no less than 5,000 lottery tickets, and he never moves, and sells for 80 baht.

There are still big buyers who sell them on to small dealers, such as those in the op who aren't included in the lottery quota.

Although the fine of ฿5000 seems a bit harsh, hope they continue setting these examples. Fear of a steep fine should ultimately keep them in line!

the problem is some locals want certain numbers and are prepared to pay a premium.

I buy the odd ticket but never if they ask over 80 for them. Pattaya Tai has several sellers who are "at it" as we say and ask more, especially if you have bue eyes......but I just walk on.

Since there is a greater chance of being struck by lightning I just wish that on the rogue sellers....

And isn't the price of a lottery ticket on the ticket itself and well known?

up here in the tip top north, a vendor the other day was selling a package of 5 tickets (random numbers) for a promotional price of 500 baht; it appears he was counting on an overall lack of math skills

just saw today on Pattaya Tai - openly selling and marked at 85 baht for the single (double) tickets

I blame the locals. They buy most of the tickets - if they all got on social media and ganged up and did not buy for a couple of months - the robbing touts would soon learn....or maybe not ....this is LoS, gambling is in the DNA.

BTW - next draw winning number is 123459 -......555
