What happened to my avatar? Did someone on a motorcycle snatch it?

Mine and many other are gone. It appears only those upload the last couple of years are showing.

I has been reported.

I don't have a pictorial avatar and have no burning desire to create one. However, I would definitely prefer an avatar with my username instead of the big letter "O" in a colourful square blob. Is there any way in which this might be possible? I struggled for a good half hour yesterday in an unsuccessful attempt to amend my profile on this basis, in the belief that it was a new whizzo TV feature!

Transam

I much prefer your previous avatar.

Mrs Transam's opinion?

I heard that the avatars are being "migrated" and should be displayed again soon. If you're in a hurry you can upload yours again if you have a backup copy.

Here is a generic avatar. Or go here and pick one.

Instructions for doing it follow.

First step go to your profile page. And click the symbol for a immage.

my avatar "migrated" also. I hope it is not for the whole winter.

Yes, mine disappeared, too. I just re-uploaded it on my profile page. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Testing..

Yup..fixed.

My avatar is still missing, I uploaded it many years ago and never changed it.

Same thing for me. Got tired of waiting for it to come back. Had to go out and find a new buffalo for it.

Do you have a copy of your old avatar somewhere on your computer so that you can upload it again? If not, try and see if this search with the Chrome browser finds it:

Your previous buffalo (taken from a screenshot) was a bit out of focus, or perhaps old age did that to him.

I guess it's gone, I do have the original image which I cropped my old avatar from, I'll make a new one from this.

I think it was old age.

I did not have the original file saved anywhere. Only a copy and paste used somewhere else. Decided it was time for new one.

Glad to see you managed to reconstruct it.

It is only my impression or do indeed many members who previously had no avatar, respectively had a white capital letter on a monocoloured background as the default, now have an avatar?

I have been wracking my brain what a member who would like to have an individual avatar but can't think of an image to use could do and the best I can come up with is http://www.random-art.org/online/

Type in your member name, or anything else, and click on image.png

If you don't like the result, make variations of your input.

Example for OJAS, the first member without avatar in this topic:

OJAS.png  OJAS (ugh)

ojas_2.png   ojas

O J A S.png   O J  A S
