Just wondering if anyone else experienced this to their LCD screen? The matt surface seems to be slowly disintegrating? It looks at first like someone has used corrosive to wipe screen but the attached image shows how it has happened 'naturally' very slowly over period of two or three years without use in tropical climate of Thailand. Started in top corner of screen and extended all over in some parts the coating fell off leaving the silvery color underneath showing. The TV was never used since this started happening and yesterday I threw it out!

Just wondering if someone can explain what is actually happening?

It was a Sony Bravia TV 32 inch that cost nearly 60,000THB when I bought it back in 2005 and was our first ever flat screen TV! Weighs and costs about 10 times more than today's similar sized screen models which we've replaced it with.

A friend has the exact same issue with a 10+ year old Bravia. Basically, over time most plastic deteriorates in some way.  heat often causes plastic to shrink and get brittle.  Looks like that is what's happening in the OP's photo.
