Gulf Energy commences operations at GTS3 power plant in Rayong

By The Nation

Gulf Energy Development, one of Thailand’s largest independent power producers, has this month commenced commercial operations at the newest of its power plants.

In the listed company’s latest move, the Gulf Tasit 3 (GTS3) plant – with an installed capacity of 129.9 megawatts – distributed 90MW of electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) in accordance with a 25-year power-purchase agreement from November 1.

Moreover, it sells 32.8MW of electricity and 25 tonnes per hour (TPH) of steam to industrial users through existing purchase agreements.

Porntipa Chinvetkitvanit, president of Gulf Energy Development, said on Monday that the company had submitted an additional filing to the Securities Exchange Commission to update the status of its projects.

The company has completed the development of the GTS3 power plant in Rayong province and commenced commercial operation to distribute electricity to Egat on schedule, she said.

The plant is a small power producer, from which the capacity sold to Egat is between 10MW and 90MW.

It is located in the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, in Rayong’s Pluak Daeng district, on about 40,000 square metres of land owned by the power project.

The GTS3 plant is a gas-fired cogeneration facility with an installed power-generation capacity of 129.9MW and an installed steam-generation capacity of 25TPH, comprising two gas turbines with a capacity of 46.5MW each and a steam turbine with a capacity of 37TPH.

Thanks to the success of the most recent plant’s execution, the company now has 13 gas-fired power projects and four rooftop solar projects in operation with a total installed capacity of 4,772.1MW, Porntipa said.

“We are committed to continuous development of new power-plant projects. A number of projects are currently under development and will begin their commercial operations to meet the demand from both household and industrial sectors, especially from the leading industrial clients who have placed their trust in us.

“We provide a secure and efficient power generation solution that can constantly satisfy the growing demand of electricity consumption, including the demand from the expansion of the Eastern Economic Corridor. This allows us to grow and become a leading power producer,” the president explained.
