Reporters of "fake news" told to get out of Koh Pangan!

Thai media reported that a major news organisation had been given its marching orders to "get out of Koh Pangan" after operators on the island got fed up with negative or even fake news.

Tnews reported that the Hat Rin traders' association had erected a big vinyl sign near the Pangan Bayshore Hotel.

The sign told the news group involved in the bad blood to "get out" in English while in Thai they asked "What have we done to upset you?"

Reporters were told in no uncertain terms they were not welcome on the island.

Tnews's picture showed the news group's name obscured but it seemed to resemble the familiar green lettering and font of Thai Rath, one of the country's foremost media organisations.

Tnews said that the sign went up on Monday morning.

They asked in their headline "What is that all about?" then offered two possibilities:

Firstly, they said the news group angered locals with reports that the beach was filthy and not cleaned up after the latest Full Moon Party.

And secondly the locals were angry with what they saw as "fake news" after the news organisation is said to have claimed that a full moon party was organised during the mourning period last month.

The locals deny that claim.

They would have a bright future in posting here :cheesy:...

On the other hand what happened to the freedom of press ? :cheesy:....As a farang, with full respect to Thai governance, one could abide to the authority of the government to censure, as internal policies are not to be subject of foreign interference.....but now if the traders and locals start to make the law what is one to expect ?

Cowards to put up a sign instead of starting a dialogue. Easy to print a sign, hang it up at night, and stand at a distance seeing what the response will be.

Why not just sue them for damaging the reputation of the island? Or maybe what they told is true after all?

So the news that you don't like the sound of is now called fake news.......lol

I give credit for the term "Fake News"  to Trump, and he defines it as any news that is not favourable to him.

So yes, news that you don't like the sound of is "fake news".

What a messed up world we live in...

In this case the term " islanders" means a lot. The next sign they put up may read:

"Koh Pangan. A tropical family run paradise without annoying democracy, free speech, freedom of press, and human rights." (North Koreans welcome!)

As they say on CNN. An apple is an apple, no matter how much some people (Donald Trump) scream

it's a banana. :coffee1:

 The Democrat way

If you can't handle the truth, we gotta kill it, so to say,............

Lovely opportunity for a highly publishized claim for defamation.... wouldn’t that be fun to watch unfold.

Hit the nail perfectly! Their never wrong nor should another point challenge whatever is declared..

Sounds like a case of not being able to handle the truth.

Sure, its just the usual blame game played out regularly over here.  Blame anyone else but yourself, never learn from mistakes and keep on in denial no matter how ridiculous it makes you appear.

That's a great story, and I'd stick to it...

Hate to read about a tragic case of mistaken identity.

GeGe at it again, always putting himself first as he did at Gullivers, self protection that's all he knows.
