so <deleted>,  I don't even know what UMTS is,  nor for LTE do I see  any similar  nomenclature (that is DTAC from your website) above

 Yes, but...

I think the NBTC is planning to auction off DTACs 850 and 1800 spectrum in 2018 (January) so... this spectrum was the original BTO concession from 15 years ago.

That said, the phone would work fine with TrueMove H and/or AIS (maybe better given 900 MHz?), so you could port out your DTAC number if there are issues.

What is the model number you're looking at...XT-1900-n, where n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5/7, 8?

TrueMove H sell the entire Lenovo/Moto line here (14,990, or 9,990 with a plan).

UMTS is 3G, LTE is 4G, Its not the easiest site to navigate but basically you pick your phone model then go on to pick the country and network etc, and it show comparability. I dont know the exact model of your phone, but the moto x4 I picked shows as not compatible on Dtac

 Device Model

Motorola Moto X4 LTE-A LATAM 32GB XT1900-4 View full device details

 Carrier

 dtac View carrier details

 Country

 Thailand blank-ef1955ae757c8b966c83248350331bd3a3

Motorola Moto X4 LTE-A LATAM 32GB XT1900-4 is compatible with 4 out of 5 bands on dtac (Thailand). See the tables below for details.

Frequency Bands Used by dtac (Thailand)

GSM

Compatibility - 2 out of 2 bands supported
100%
Interface Name Supported by device?
GSM 900 (E-GSM) Yes
GSM 1800 (DCS) Yes

UMTS

Compatibility - 2 out of 2 bands supported
100%
Interface Name Supported by device?
UMTS B1 (2100) Yes
UMTS B5 (850) Yes

LTE

Compatibility - 0 out of 1 band supported
0%
Interface Name Supported by device?
LTE B1 (2100) No

A quick wikipeadia search on dtac network states they dont do carrier aggregation, (The specs in your OP)

4G LTE service is available as of 2014 on the 2100 MHz band, and the enhanced 4G LTE service on the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands (Not Carrier Aggregation)

It looks like the Latin American variant is the only one which doesn't support LTE Band 1.

My best guess is that the OP may have the -2 or -5/7 variant, but who knows.

Note that most voice calls here require the handset to negotiate/switch back to 3G. Many newer, higher-end hand-sets do support VoLTE, but the service provider may or may not allow all such hand-sets.

ya, problem is , it is NOT listed in the specs on the project fi site, and when I talked to the google agent, he seems to deny phones  even have different versions,  like I'm asking a dumb question.

yes, i'm in the US system .......

ya, i think the big selling point for PFi  is the VoLTE,  though  I have never noticed it being used,  as esp. in Thailand  hardly anyone makes a non LINE voice call anymore, and I am a light user  , semi retired now ,  but like the Project Fi system otherwise .....

1)

so, are you,    mtls2005,   saying this phone would not work with the DTAC  voice  system ?

2)

so I guess if I have to  I could port the number, I'm just familiar with DTAC  and won't be back in LOS till June 1 , but my  Bangkok Bank is tied to the current  SIM- number ..... for SMS  overseas.

3)

re: XT-1900-n, where n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5/7, 8?

.....I'm not sure how else to get this information,  the google  guy  said  I'd  have to 'contact Motorola'   55   , but I'll keep trying .......

thanks for your responses

My guess is that you will have the XT-1900-1 variant, and that it should work fine here. It may not work for VoLTE, but that won't be an issue as you'll fall-back to 3G.

No clue what things will look like after any future spectrum auction(s), but obviously you could port to AIS or TrueMove H if you have issues with DTAC.

This phone should work fine in the U.S. roaming with a DTAC SIM to receive Bangkok Bank SMSes as you'll probably get a signal from T-Mo. I assume it works now on whatever phone you happen to be using?

So porting  from DTAC to others , is simple ??  just go down to a shop somewhere in T21, fortunetown or so ?

2)

do True and AIS  also  have the free  SMS overseas  thing ?

sorry what does it mean  that :

Does this mean that DTAC  my gain  those spectrums and hence increase compatibility beyond  the 2100 and 1800 ?

Yes, Yes.

Yes (as in you do not pay for in-bound SMSes).

It means that DTAC may lose, or retain, this spectrum. Some analysts are predicting that interest in this spectrum auction may be low and that DTAC may win the bidding.

I think you're worrying too much about this. Just wait until you get to Thailand and see if you are happy with your new phone and DTAC. If not, port out.
