Four suspected drug traffickers were shot dead and a huge cache of methamphetamine was seized after soldiers tried to intercept a drug caravan crossing from Myanmar into Mae Ai district of Chiang Mai last night (Dec 5).

A group of soldiers from Pha MuangTask Force was patrolling along the border jungle in Mae Ai after receiving a tip-off that a huge amount of drug would be smuggled into the country.

At about 9pm, a heavily guarded drug caravan of 20 men was spotted crossing into the Thai border. The authorities tried to stop them for a search, but gun men in the group allegedly fired shots at authorities, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

This happened just behind my village Tha Ma Khaeng where we woke to find uniforms everywhere. The unexplained issue is what was the big explosion around about 9pm on the 5th. Louder than any firework it shook the house and rattled the windows and coincides with the time the caravan was first located. We are assuming an explosion caused by a tripwire which they set off blowing themselves up. Shooting took place mainly as the sun rose on the 6th. Thats what woke the villagers to the comotion.

Or the southwest part of america

Not many countries left where there is not some sort of smuggling going on across borders, that involves large amounts of money and guns to protect that "investment".

Exactly this illogical thinking that perpetuates the the war on drugs.  It makes most people feel safe knowing they, the government, are stopping us from hurting ourselves with dangerous substances.... 555

It is amazing how a group of pre-warned professional soldiers can not arrest a group of civilians in a simple operation as outlined in this story !
