Chiang Mai plays host to children’s book fair

BANGKOK, 7th December 2017 (NNT) - The northern province of Chiang Mai has played host to an event aimed at turning the city into Southeast Asia’s copyright trade center of books for children and youths.

Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat on Wednesday chaired the official opening of the festival of copyrighted content for media for children and youth, which was the first of its kind in Thailand, in Chiang Mai.

The event was organized with the cooperation of private publishers to support the move by the northern capital to become the ASEAN Community’s center for exchange of knowledge through the legal and fair trading in intellectual property.

Mr. Veera said that it's hoped that the festival will increase the opportunity for the exchange of innovative media from the international community while encouraging children and the young to read more books and consume media beneficial for their learning process.

Visitors to the festival, which will continue until December 9 at Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre, will get to enjoy photographic books for children and youths, which have won awards from the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy, and myriad creations from Thai and ASEAN illustrators as well as several workshops along with the sale of quality books.
