An Australian engineer was left needing hospital treatment after a late night fight in Pattaya.

Ev Whatman, 41, had been enjoying a quiet night of festive revelry at a beer bar in Soi 7 when he decided to seek further refreshment at another hostelry in the immediate vicinity, reported Tnews.

He had a cuddly toy with him and was decidedly irked when a young Thai man on a motorcycle blocked his path.

A verbal exchange ensued regarding the correctness of the Thai man's parking habits that resulted in the cuddly toy being jettisoned in the Thai's direction.

This caused annoyance to the local youth and a mild fight ensued after which the Australian walked off to continue his hunt for a late night beverage.

But two men followed Mr Whatman before one produced some knuckle dusters from his pocket and applied them to his fist.

The Australian was then set upon with ferocity that resulted in facial and body injuries.

Fortunately another tourist visitor came to his aid and the Thai men were chased from the scene before Mr Whatman reported the incident to officer Thammanchit Sitthisat of the Pattaya constabulary.

A report was made of the incident before Mr Whatman was escorted to hospital to tend to his injuries.

Then the police went to the area to investigate the crime and take a look at CCTV to aid their detective capabilities.

Does any Thai male ever fight fairly, one on one, or without weapons ? I think not.

Would probably have been better going for an early night, with his cuddly toy, after the first fracas.

I do find it very annoying when people park their bikes right across the pavement causing blockage and I do sometimes a make a comment myself , although I do understand that making a comment late at night after a few beers is not the time and place to do it

No. Some foreign males may or may not dislike Thai males and some Thai males may or may not dislike foreign males. Most of either group don't dislike members of the other, though there appears to be a high percentage of TVF posters who generally dislike all Thais.

And just about everything Thai males do is annoying.

To some foreign males. Those may or may not be the same ones who then act on their annoyance in a way that annoys the Thai males. Parenthetically it should be noted that some foreign males may find some other foreign males annoying with subsequent unpleasant results. And of course some TVF posters find other posters annoying and flame them, so helping to get themselves banned.

This story really is nothing to do with where people come from, whether they be Aussie or Thai .

This is simply a case of one person blocking the pavement and another person objecting to it

I dont know why some people have to divide everything up according to where people come from

Nationality is nothing to do with this story

Parking across the sidewalk, blocking it whatever, is pretty standard behaviour for a Thai. I have seen my very appropriate gf do it. When I mentioned it, she shrugged her shoulders. To me, her body language said "that's the way we do it in Thailand".

So I let it be. Maybe that is what the Aussie should consider next time.

Exactly. Seems to me that after you've lived here a while you learn to go around the countless obstacles without thinking, though I do remember one member who didn't agree he should stoop to avoid overhanging signs. Rather signs shouldn't overhang here 'cause they aren't permitted to do so in the UK. (I love this forum!) If you see a guy regularly walking down Beach Rd. w/ a bloodied forehead, that must be him. I assume this Ozzie has learned something about the way thing work now: cuddly toys won't do the job.

here's my take on this. for a start the thais park like that all the time, if you let it annoy you or you have a go at them for it you will be arguing and fighting many times a day. easier just to walk around it. what is it a few extra steps? what a hardship. in this blokes case he seems to have come out of a bar probably pissed and had a go at the guy and threw his teddy at him LOL. bad move as we all know here and actually unnecessary as i agree the second beating up was. if you have a bloke on a bike as i assume the guy was for the aussie to know it was his bike, then you could also assume that he is waiting for his mates who may be nearby in a shop or something. so although as often is the case, he didn't deserve to get bashed up, he did bring it on himself IMO

By the looks of him in that photo he got off easy. If it's not the Auzzies it's the English. If not the English then the Auzzies. How many bawls per pub happen in those 2 countries a nite?

My dad recounted his experience of Sydney from the thirties. Sounds as if brawling was a normal pastime, with the victors customarily buying another beer for their losing playmate. He said it was unwise to engage the local constabulary however, as he awoke with a sore head back aboard ship and denied further liberty while there.

firstly there is no sidewalk on soi 7 or soi 8, what likely happened here (and something I have seen happen many times) is that the guy was walking up the street and this thai guy just rode past him and turned in right in front of him blocking his path instead of pulling in behind him, it is rude and careless and could be done on purpose with intent to annoy the farang.

Both soi 7 and soi 8 should be "pedestrian only" after 6pm (just like walking street) and those needing access to a hotel given a pass, we have cars going up and down there often far too fast and often in the wrong direction, both soi's are narrow and dangerous

I guess that´s number 3-4 of negative things happening regarding violence in Pattaya only this week.

Probably still the most wonderful place on earth.

'Probably still...............'                      One of the saddest things I have ever heard.

Friday night, standard stuff in bars, pubs, clubs and "entertainment" zones around the globe.

i was more referring to the circumstances. drunk quality tourist in vest with tattoos tells a local off for something minor and gets battered by a load of guys and ends up in hospital. that's exclusive to pattaya mate 555
