BANGKOK, 15 January 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Defense is determined to link 367,000 closed circuit cameras across Thailand by 2019 for national security and public safety.

Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich said the government will join hands with private organizations to connect more than 367,000 surveillance cameras, both working on analog and digital systems.

He said Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan had asked responsible units to repair all broken cameras and formed 2 working committees tasked with accelerating the connection of surveillance camera network and managing CCTV data and storage.

Lt Gen Kongcheep added that tax incentives will be rolled out to motivate private firms to install more surveillance cameras, whereas the Ministry of Interior has been assigned to add more CCTV cameras at border crossings in 27 provinces.

Moreover, a software that connects analog and digital cameras has been developed and will be tested in 4 pilot cities – Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Nakhon Sawan.

But how many will work? And does being important stop them from working properly? If I'm rich and important and I'm caught doing something bad, who do I sue for defamation?

All the high tech surveillance will be conveniently disabled when the MOD decide this not for public consumption. Wil claim the standard excuses like faulty hardware, no tape and poor visibility.

Nice little  BIG earner, for someone, how many people will they

have viewing the 367,000 feeds.

I am sure they will shop around and end up settling for purchases at only 3 or 4 times the going rate. Got to keep that corruption cash flowing somehow. How else can people on 30K a month pay for that fat house and the Mercedes?

Only good for after the fact

So why your probably being bandaged up in hospital after an attack then go to the trouble of going to the police, who might actually have the event on CCTV, the culprit says I'm broke can,t pay the hospital bill & cops a 500 bht fine

Same as a car crash ! Ok you got, me not know camera there. But i only have Gov Ins & no money. So your left to claim on your first class ins & provide all the evidence (after stating you were in  the right ) only to be told that your premium just went up because Ins company didn't chase the guilty party for payment

Be prepared for 300.000 malfunctions and a couple new millionaires getting the maintenance contracts.

The digital ones might be on special software only needing human intervention or attention if something happens needing attention.

Big money in CCTV installations (brother-in-law effect).  Not much in repair.  No money for repair.  367K CCTV cameras, even if only half of them  work, there probably is only funding for a 3000 employees to watch them or a thousand cameras apiece (no money for personnel).  Of course, most of those will have to pay 200K for the cushy job and will probably be napping or busy on their iPhones.

Some good tea money is going to be made with this public office tender...

Already happening in my town last 4 days, lots of new cameras on shiney new posts being installed at junctions on the main drag.
