Rearview camera for cyclist

Featured Replies

The cameras I found all operate via mobile phone display. Like this one

I wouldn't want to expose my mobile to the handlebar shocks plus power consumption over a 5 hour ride.

Do you have alternative ideas?

You could always use a powerbank to keep the mobile from draining too fast. But that still would not help you with the shocks.

Maybe there are other camera's with display but you would need a power source for those too.

For seeing behind you, a mirror won't tax your phone battery an.d if you wanted to be extravagant you could get a mirror on each side.

For recording your ride and incident investigation, you don't need a 'live' screen.

I've not seen any cheap turn indicator lights, though, but I am sure they are available.  On the other hand, hand signals are quite clear, if you have full use of your arms, though can be awkward when maneuvering and braking and whatever else you have to do on the approach to junctions.  However, by the same token the turn indicator switches might be difficult to locate conveniently.

There are phone mounts that I think will protect your phone from the worst of the vibration.

I would hate to be on a 5-hour ride where I needed to be looking behind me a lot of the time.

I'm surprised that I've never seen a dynamo USB charger - now that would be a more useful product - for lights, phones, and whatever other devices people stick on their bike.
