All policemen in eight northeastern provinces under the jurisdiction of the Third Region Provincial Police Bureau will be subjected to urine tests for drug abuse at the order of the police commissioner, Pol Lt-Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphas.

Presiding over the launch of the White Police Project, Pol Lt-Gen Damrongsak told a gathering of police officers at the auditorium of the regional police bureau in Nakhon Ratchasima that all policemen who were involved in the suppression of narcotic drugs must not be involved in drug abuse in order to portray the police in a positive light and to restore public trust and confidence in the police.

Under the project, he said all the officers involved in drug suppression must undergo urine tests for drug abuse, warning that any of them who were tested positive will be disciplined.

Why just a select few?
Surely all police should be subject to random drug tests as part of standard procedure.

because the "drug suppression cops" are deep undercover and take their job so seriously that in order to camouflage themselves they are taking the very substances they are supposed to be fighting.

I wonder if the 'testing' will start at the top of the tree? Set an example perhaps?

And would the testing be transparent and responsibily done?

Nah, hard to believe that something like that would happen.

A family member was busted for speed in his urine. Thai man no meth on him. He was beaten so badly by the police looking to find more that they refused to let his father see him or bring food. That new news to us today, we could not understand why no visit. He now has been transfered for rehabilitation. This happened in Panat Nikhom Chonburi police. Take care. Could not get photos of his broken face.
