January 23, 20188 yr Not sure about Rai, but Highway 118 goes from Chiang Mai to its intersection with Highway 1 leading into Chiang Rai. The Maekhachan hot spring as definitely worth a stop - especially this time of year when the water temperate is more moderate. Also worth a stop along the highway is Wiang Pa Pao - a City/Town/Village which is about as close to 1980 as you can still get in Thailand. If you plan on tripping to temples close to the highway (a couple of km usually), take a close look at the "9 Temple Tour" (Google) and of course, the tourist attraction "White Temple". Worth a trip.
January 23, 20188 yr The 9 temple tour is a perfect layout and not too strenuous, but ruined by the soi dogs. It was a good idea, though....and the price is right.
