Road 118 to Chiang Rai

I'm interested in visiting Wang Kaew waterfall. Afterwards driving north along road 118 to link up with highway 1 to Rai. Anything of interest along the 118?

Not sure about Rai, but Highway 118 goes from Chiang Mai to its intersection with Highway 1 leading into Chiang Rai.  The Maekhachan hot spring as definitely  worth a stop - especially this time of year when the water temperate is more moderate.

 

Also worth a stop along the highway is Wiang Pa Pao - a City/Town/Village which is about as close to 1980 as you can still get in Thailand.  If you plan on tripping to temples close to the highway (a couple of km usually), take a close look at the "9 Temple Tour" (Google) and of course, the tourist attraction "White Temple".  Worth a trip.

The 9 temple tour is a perfect layout and not too strenuous, but ruined by the soi dogs.  It was a good idea, though....and the price is right.

9 temple tour gives mixed results. You mean 9 tiers? That's north west of Rai.

That is something done around the old, central part of CR.  Been a few years, but I am thinking 6km walking+the temple tours.
