CityNews – A homeless man was found dead at a cafe in Sri Phum yesterday morning, believed to have died in his sleep from a mixture of the cold and other health issues.

On January 23, police received a report that a dead body had been found at the front porch of a cafe in Sri Phum. The body was identified only as a local homeless man who often slept in the area.

I wonder how many shelter for the homeless they could make in Thailand if so much money didn´t fall into greasy fingers.

Clearly living on the streets due to choice or circumstances can't be a very healthy lifestyle.

If  due to circumstances I say RIP to the decedent.

But from cold?    In the years I've been in Thailand I've only been cold because of a low air con setting.

Every year some Thai die by the cold temperatures. He might better have gone to a wat.

Miserable way to go.

Without a blanket or something, 60F will take you down to hypothermia. :(

If you wanted shelter the temples would take you in. I have slept on the floor inside the temple in front of a large golden Buddha because of a loud party going on next to my house, I didn't even ask but about an hour later a monk came in and offered me a pillow wordlessly and then left me alone again.

Which means you were at home or indoors somewhere. The other night it was 12C in Chiang Mai at 6am. Not pleasant to sleep on the street if you are not properly dressed, and I doubt this poor chap was. Then again, as you mentioned, there might have been other health issues connected to his lifestyle too.

Anyone can stay in a temple overnight (or get a meal), there is no need for any other homeless shelters in Thailand, the temple provides. Usually those who sleep rough (in most countries) choose to do so, often connected to mental illness, drug or alcohol problems.

So the answer to your question would be 'none'.

Easy to pick out those who live in Thailand, and those who know nothing of Thailand in these threads.

Nice! I have been living in Thailand over 17 years, so I guess your blatant try went all wrong there.

I would take a real good look at myself and my own knowldge if I were in your shoes. Ohh, but thank you! I am not, right?

True, I have been staying in a temple myself, for 1 month, just to try the life and to have more knowledge about it. The problem, though, is that they du not take in alcoholics and drug users. That makes a problem for most of the people in need.

Temples may offer accommodation for people in emergency situations , but they will not allow homeless people to live there permantly

I see a LOT more homelessness in Silicon Valley than I ever saw in Thailand.

And in many cases its a life style choice. Dropping off the grid and rejecting the bonds of society

Your complete knowledge of Thailand could be written on the back of a postage stamp in crayon.

In the USA, it's the mental illness, drugs and alcohol that alienates the homeless from family and friends who would otherwise help them. I don't have enough information about homelessness in Thailand, so I can only comment on a few observations. But people are not much different. I'm sure the monks are quick to kick someone out of the temple if they're a serious problem.
