Trump is looking out for Trump. In the process he is bankrupting the nation, destroying the rules based global trade system, encouraging tyrants and damaging alliances that have prevented another world war since the last world war.

I don't want a strongman as President, I want a constitutional system of government in which each branch of government responsibly acts as a check on the other branches.

Yeah, and even though it's obvious he has pretensions to be a dictator, he isn't even a BENEVOLENT dictator. He's much more the evil con man corrupt kind. He's all about cynically milking his white nationalist base and if he actually had benevolent intentions, that is clearly proven false based on his toxic actions towards the American health care system. He's literally killing people with his policies and many of those people are members of his base.

You could look at a nation like Singapore as a more authoritarian alternative to democracy but one that actually is looking after it's people.
