Renewing Thai motorbike license

Featured Replies

About to go and renew my Thai bike license. I have a current car license. A few questions...

1. Do I need to wait for the old one to expire?

2. My Aus bike license has now expired. Will they simply renew my bike license based on the current Thai license or will I have to do a test?

3. Do I need to go take a medical and obtain a residents letter?

4. Do I need to get a letter from the motor department to take to immigration to get my residents letter? (I had to do this last time I bought a vehicle and registered on my name)

OP, dependent on your local DLT/immigration and their requirements.

Usually you can renew while old license is still current, renewal is your Thai license, nothing to do with Aus license. You usually need to do the reflex and red light tests, but not the practical or written test. You dont usually need a medicial certificate for renewal but you will need a COR, or WP etc. Local immigration will have their own requirements for COR.

Thats my experience in BKK and Chonburi, could be different in other locations.

If you say where you are, you will probably get some more specific information for that DLT/immigration office.

how long did your old licence run for
