Hope this is the right place to ask

Can anyone advise me on the best place to get insurance for the car and bike

wanr class 1 insurance for car, but basic for. Bike

just been to the tax office to tax and insure the car and bike

i think I have taxed them both, and go back tomorrow to collect "discs"

turns out I only have 3rd party basic insurance for car and NO insurance for bike

told no need for bike ??????

was told class 1 insurance was expensive, and not need , but if really wanted, was 300,00 baht

after around 20 minutes of biting my tongue and asking about the insurance, I still don't know how much it would cost to buy, except "expensive"

dont know why it covers, only it's 300,000 baht

finally gave up and walked out

SO, any advise on what to ask, look for , where to buy and how much would be much appreciated

Whichever level of insurance you choose, no matter what others say, when/if you have an accident, you will be basically standing alone. I purchase class one insurance each year, and while relatives like to tell me that I am spending too much money, I do it because I want that coverage. I also believe in insurance coverage on a motorcycle as well. Driving in a country with the most dangerous roads in the world means that I want the insurance. I also have a dash cam, which can save you a small amount on the insurance - usually almost enough to pay for the dash cam.

Email AA Insurance Brokers (Thailand) with your details, they will reply in English as the owner is a farang..

To be "cash safe" you should ask for first class insurance for the car, up to you for the bike. When your road taxed the rides you automatically paid for government compulsory insurance which everyone must buy regardless of personal cover..

Thanks guys

you say I'm automatically covered for both the car and bike when I taxed them

but only have paperwork for the cars insurance

So I have to pay over 600 baht for the minimum insurance that comes with the tax, then pay whatever the class 1 costs too ?

Could I not refuse the minimum cover and just pay for the class1 ?

thats what I tried to do and got nowhere so gave up

The bike is a Honda wave, mostly used just in the village, so not need full cover, but would like at least the basic, which i thought was the legal requirement anyway

The insurance that comes with the tax is person only, injuries to you or passenger or someone you hit etc. You pay it when you pay the car/bike tax but it doesnt cover the vehicle

You cannot tax any ride without the gov compulsory insurance which on the whole is useless.

If you do not have first class insurance any plaintiff will be knocking at your door for bundles..With first class they deal with that stuff..

Just did the tax and gov insurance on the bike, 400bht total..

If you have tax disc you will have the compulsory insurance

just a small slip of paper  sometimes they fold it up and put it in a little envelope5a83ca9dbc6f1_taxedit.thumb.jpg.ed536faf28506a86b4e77c35fa36f175.jpg

If you want better insurance for car or bike then go to an Insurance broker  AA have been mentioned already

the "better" insurance has to be supplementary to the compulsory government insurance.
