Anyone applied for child birth certificate for half Thai in Australia?? Or know how

I'm trying to get my child a Thai birth certificate in Australia. Was seeing if anyone has been through the process as I'm stuck. I have been through the website getting all documents togegher to post off but they want birth certificate authenticated by dfat but unsure if to send original to be authenticated or a copy?

Without being mister obvious Thai Embassy in Oz would be your best bet but I'm pretty sure a trip to Thailand is in order it's not like a passport.
