10 Reasons you left your homeland to live in Thailand

I did not care which country I moved to - it just had to be warm, all year round.  My boyfriend chose this place.

I have been here over 3 years now and love it.  Do miss work though.

Still have house in England - no plans to go back permanently -------- yet.

I have seen too many people move to another country, something happens and they want to return to the UK but find house prices have risen since they left and have to move to a smaller place or go north.  I lived on the south coast where prices for a small 2 bed-roomed place are extortionate.

Bored with my job in the UK.  Always fancied myself as an English teacher.  The CELTA course was much cheaper to do in Bangkok than in London.  Got offered a job in Bangkok straightaway.  Now earning more here, after 13 years, than I could doing the same thing in the UK, and married (although not to a Thai) with a kid.

May go back though, for the kid's sake...

I was earning 6,000-7,000bht/day as a freelance teacher in UK high school (retirement job).

Don't think I could earn that here doing the same thing.

when you love someone its natural to want to live with them in the same country, everything else you have here is a bonus, well mostly

Used to be a good place but now food prices are comparable with my home country,  cheaper to live in my home country now, so after 20 yeas saying good by to all the hassles of living here 90 day reporting etc. In the U.S you get a green card and they don't make you report like a criminal . Scammers everywhere, military seizing property? No rights at all, 4th class citizen. Wont live long breathing the filthy air. eating vegetable and fruit sprayed with paraquat. Beaches so filthy you cant walk for the garbage and swim at your own risk. Might as well swim in the clongs of Bangkok, not so far to drive.

So tell me again what is good about this place?

"and they don't make you report like a criminal".

I agree completely with that, but the good still outweighs the bad here. But then

I am from the UK.

The country life for some, i.e. away from what you are experiencing.

I do Phuket and Pattaya on alternate years, and after a week, I can't wait to get back to the country side, because I see the change every time I go.

Each to their own and sometimes we have to seek and find alternatives, i.e. when I first came to Thailand in 2007 for a holiday, I saw Phuket for what it was, but when I saw the country and the life people have here, I said, that is me, so the plan and savings then followed, 8 years later I realised my dream, no regrets, and never want to go back to where I came from, i.e. Sydney, leave that place for all those who want to extract as much as they can from the welfare system, while the tax payers pay through the nose and then get shafted when they move overseas for a better life, i.e. if you allow them to shaft you that is, because careful planning can make you have a great lifestyle here without having to pay any tax back in the old country, the so called "Lucky Country" :partytime2:

If you haven't been to Nai Harn in Phuket, you are missing out, its a quiet destination about 30 minuted out, but the water is pristine, and is best spent from early morning till late afternoon.

i will look it up.  thanks

Yes i agree with that, but how many young western women would allow old farts to use them?

I think many would Colin, if they were getting houses bought for them, and all the other financial advantages.

But like many Thai women, they would still eventually seek their sexual satisfaction with younger guys.

Depends on their bank account obviously.

I'm just a TEFL teacher, having worked in business for 25 years before I came to Thailand.  Doing corporate TEFL and IELTS/IGCSE/TOEFL exam preparation, and IELTS examining, brings in around 80-100,000 a month.  I've looked into doing TEFL in the UK and it pays less, plus a lot of work is seasonal.

For we Aussies LoS is at most only an 8 1/2 hour flight,  convenient and cheap to holiday any time of the year.
I do have a regular Thai lady who's very compatible, speaks good English and has a good career in BKK, so the question always begs, why not relocate?
Then I'm reminded of the corrupt cops, pollution, population density; noise; low farang status level (government wise) and currency exchange variable.
Additionally I'm reminded of the personal attrition on farangs, when I see the too numerous morbidly obese bar fly Ex Pats.

In Australia I'm fortunate to live in the country, near great beaches, national parks; and easy going country town lifestyle.
Good friends,  great Veteran benefits (lost if overseas) Medical and Dental; government guaranteed Banks; clean water and food;  efficient pollution control; and political stability.

For me there's too much compromising and quality loss to live permanently in Thailand.
If I was a Brit, European or American I'd probably think differently though.

All that waffle to get a flame in at the end.

Good for you mate,  Farang women hold no interest for me nowadays.

I was married to a menopausal women and it was hell;  IMO they should be put down at 49,  strangely enough I know a good Veterinarian who feels the same way I do  555

Hi Kimber,

It is a fun thread and I like the honesty and it is good for a laugh.

Now that I am back in my home country (medical reasons) I detect two reactions..

Aussie males.."err..err..sigh.."

Aussie females.."Oi'll jest pick yer up an' wring yer bloody neck!"

Your Vet friend was probably very experienced in handling bovines..

Any day I'm in town or city I'm reminded of the despicable state too many farang women have become.

I'm still tempted to pack it all in, and relocate to LoS, time will tell.
