A police lieutenant colonel who has played takraw for the Thai national team was one of five people injured in a pile up in Nakorn Pathom yesterday.

A ten wheel truck carrying refrigerated chicken piled into the back of traffic waiting at the lights at the Nong Kha Yang intersection headed in the direction of Bangkok.

Pictures showed the aftermath with a tourist police Toyota Altis forced under the wheels of a minivan with another tourist police car in front.

The van carried stickers of the Ministry of Defense and is thought to have been escorted by the police vehicles.

The driver of the police vehicle behind the van was taken to hospital along with Pol Lt Col Seubsak Phanseub attached to the Kanchanaburi tourist police. Seubsak - who has played international Takraw for Thailand - was travelling in the back and suffered a cut lip.

Three other members of the public travelling in a pick-up were taken to hospital.

The driver of the chicken truck Manote Suaylam, 29, blamed brake failure.

Understanding weight and speed combined is not in the thought process of this driver, and if so , he then failed in doing a pre-restart on his loaded truck prior to starting his journey,

incompetent potential killer,

Send him to driver's school in the mountains of Nepal, northern India, Pakistan, Chile or Peru.  I understand that the few who graduate alive are pretty good.

The ones who bug me are like a bus driver we had going through the mountains from Loei towards Chang Mai years ago.  He had to let go of the steering wheel and wai every time he passed the middle of a curve where there was a monument and flowers for people who went over the cliff.  I kid you not. The guys who did the "Jackass" movies would not have ridden that bus.

"brake failure blamed"

Waiting for the day when "Thai driver's negligence" (or farang's, if applicable) is actually blamed for one of these incidents.

It might happen one day, possibly before the next election :coffee1:

If it does then it will be the same day that you get dive bombed by a flock of flying pigs

I wonder if the Police ever test that these people, and there has been

a lot, actually have suffered "Brake failure ",or do they just take their

word, in 45 years of driving all kinds of vehicles, some with dodgy

brakes,i never have had brake failure, and don't know anybody that has.

but here it seems to be a daily occurance.

regards worgeordie

The usual excuse is some sort of medical condition/seizure.

While the actual reasons usually include distraction (trying to destroy an enemy tower on Mobile Legends: Bang Bang) and then stomping on the wrong pedal.

Popular excuse for this year........he borrowed the truck of a friend who has since died so he was unaware of the brake condition.

Karma is gonna get you when it gets you.  Might be dead chickens, soi dogs or a 10-wheel truck with "brake failure". More likely a Mia Noi.

Coffee breaks, tea breaks, lunch breaks, meter breaks, give us a break...........

Indeed ratcatcher , I was going out yesterday on the Forza for a cappuccino but it started raining so my coffee break failed.  At least I didn't get to spill it on anyone.

One day maybe those who claim "brake failure" will have their vehicle impounded on the spot and duly expertised by a police mechanic to assess if it was really the brakes or not and if so, why the maintenance was not made......:cheesy:

As a high profile police officer is involved in this case (an not just another farang), perhaps the hon. officer could use his misfortune, status and notoriety to lobby for some new regulations that probe when people claim "brake failures".

Wish all the involved a fast recovery.

Please note that with the Thai auto-correct version 2.0, "brain failure" gets changed to "brake failure" in the context of any road-related incidents.  Perhaps it has to do with Thai language.  "Break fail" could mean failure to brake, brakes failed a long time ago, I failed to repair the brakes, anything.

Of course the simple explanation of brake failure is that he hit the brakes 2 seconds before impact at speed and they failed to stop the truck.

do they not know that one can engage the handbrake and also use gears to slow down.......even turn off the engine !!! BUT THEY ARE NOT TAUGHT THESE FACTS when "paying" for the driving licence !!
