Time for new glasses. I got a pair at a Top Charoen in BKK some years ago. They were ok. But I wasn't completely satisfied - either the prescription was off a bit or the lense was off the prescription. I also recall thinking they were rather pricey. Of course, I got the bifocals and other extras.

Has anybody been satisfied with their new glasses and would recommend a shop/company in Chiang Rai?

I've had two pair made in the last 6 months.

The first, a pair of bifocals that I had made for spares (to be kept in the car) at the Big C optician were over 3000B by the time he talked me into decent frames.

The second, a pair of prescription Polaroid sunglasses at Top Charoen opposite the mosque lane way/next to the market entrance were 5000B, once again the frames were expensive.

I'm satisfied with both.

I used a shop on "Walking Street" for many years. The guy speaks English, he got all equipment to check your eyesight and can make glasses the way you want them.

And he is not expensive.

His shop is opposite the place where you drive in and can park the car.

Zenni Optical https://www.zennioptical.com/

In CM my prescription costs 8,500bht, from Zenni the same prescription costs 3,500bht

Get your eye test done locally, order the glasses online.

MaeJoMTB what  type of lens? bifocal or trifocal (transition) I can't think of the exact name  but three focal lengths but no lines in the lens. I would be interested to know as am in the need for new glasses myself.

On my second pair from Zenni now, first pair lasted 3 years, too scratched to wear now.

The second pair, I just clicked 'same again' and paid the $100 by cc ...... arrived in 3 weeks.

How/where do you get the glasses adjusted for online purchase?  I can only wear ones with nose pads which need to be adjusted as well as good fit behind the ears.

Thanks all for the tips. I went with Mr Manoo. I was looking for replacement for my primary glasses. He gave a very competitive quote that included transition tinting and progressive bifocals. More important to me, the lens' are very accurate. I've often been disappointed with lens prescriptions even back home.

His shop is a little confusing to find as there are at least 4 glasses shops on that block!

Thanks for the follow up Manassas. I am getting very close to doing the same thing so very nice to hear a current review.

Isn't that the way it works here. Clusters of alike stores. In my 25 odd years here it's still among one of the things that constantly amaze and amuse me.
