CityNews – Governor Pawin Chamniprasart, along with Vice Governor Puttipong Sirimart, held a video conference meeting with 25 district chief officers and other related authorities to report on the progress being made to combat smoke pollution, and discuss solutions to the burning taking place during the 51-day burning ban.

The government has been using satellites to identify burning ‘hotspots’ across Thailand, to help quantify the number of fires happening every day before, during and after the burning season. During the burning ban which started on March 1st, until April 2nd, Authorities identified 161 hotspots.

According to records provided by the governor, this number is a lot less than 2016 and 2017 where 566 and 522 hotposts were identified respectively.

The authorities however, do not identify what determines a ‘hotspot’ oh how large one particular hotspot can be.

Why do they need to discuss this. The slash and burn policy is already illegal!

All they need to do is enforce it!

This governor....plus probably the other 70 odd governors, need to go...over governance in Thailand is absurd and one of the reasons everything takes so long

talk, stall, drag your feet until the rains come, problem solved.

Clown meeting about to combat smoke pollution.

Only one simple answer , STOP  burning all year round and give hefty fines to violators.

The solution is simple. The difficulty is getting the law enforced when there are no

brown envelopes for the BIB.

Point your vac to the heaven and suck for your life would be more effective than endless toothless talking and no action.

Groundhog Day - lived in Chiang Mai 1998-99. Back then this was a national catastrophe, a major public health issue and a threat to tourism! It was being taken up at 'the highest levels'! That was twenty years ago. They say that 'where there's a will, there's a way" . Well  clearly there is no will.

Strangely suspicious if this weren't LoS; but then hotspots are presumably different to hotposts.

Now they've discussed it and decided the number of hotspots has fallen, they no doubt will reassemble this time next year for much of the same.

There's the will. But it's counteracted by the future vote.

And "discuss" is all they will do.
