Is this the worst ‘farang breakfast’ in all of Thailand?

 

 

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and there is no better way to start the day than with a cooked breakfast.

 

But photos shared by an expat in Thailand may make you question that.

 

Earlier this week, photos of a truly shocking attempt at a cooked breakfast were shared to a popular expat Facebook group.

 

Now normally the Breakfast Club Pattaya Facebook group is filled with photos of tasty breakfasts from some of the best spots around Pattaya.

 

But the breakfast in these particular photos is so bad, it could quite honestly put you off breakfast for good!

 

 

The story goes that Ian McCully who shared the photos, asked for a veggie breakfast and you can only imagine his horror and disappointment when this turned up at his table.

 

On the plate were two eggs that looked like they had been cooking for days, alongside some sliced tomatoes.

 

Bizarrely, the plate also contained cauliflower, carrots and baby sweetcorn.

 

The only highlight of the plate was the checkered pattern which decorated two slices of toast.

 

The state of the eggs was summed up by D'Wayne Midson who commented: “What did they cook the eggs with? A flame thrower?”

 

"Who doesn't love a bit of boiled cauliflower for breakfast. Love the caramelisation on the eggs as well", wrote Rory Lawlor.

 

"As a general rule I think if you can pick your eggs up and slap your waitress in the face with them they are probably no good", he added

 

While Daniel Paul wrote: “Those eggs delivered straight from hell”.

 

It isn’t known exactly where this offending breakfast was concocted but it is believed to be somewhere in the Yasothorn area of Thailand.

 

Top tip - if you’re staying in rural Thailand and the place you’re eating at has ‘farang food’ on the menu, nine times out of ten you are better taking the Thai food option - especially at breakfast.

 

The only exception to this rule being the 'American Breakfast', which in Thailand is best avoided, especially those funky little sausages.

It would be nice to know just exactly the guy wanted/expected with regard to a veggie breakfast ?

 

If you go to rural Thailand and ask someone with a limited grasp of the English language for that sort of thing you only have yourself to blame in my book.

Love to see what would get dished up to a thai in a transport cafe in the uk if he asked for a traditional thai breakfast.

In my local chippy they do kebab meat pizzas, scotland famous for deep fried mars bars.

People travelling thousands of miles to a country with a different climate culture etc etc expecting a vegetarian full english and then getting uptight because it isnt what they expected?

 I think they did their best to be helpful and gave him what he wanted.  There is no such thing as a western vegetarian breakfast. Ludicrous request. Regarding the egg: better well done than phlegmy and undercooked.

I am sure they they have tried hard to please, but they are probably not going to get 5 stars on trip advisor for that one.

Nah!  Just puts me off ever asking for a vegetarian breakfast.  Does't look that bad as they had no idea what he expected or how he intended it to be cooked.  Not delicious looking but it would be edible.  A bit of vegetarian marge for the toast and a sachet of marmalade & a Thai 3-in-one coffee and his day was set up well.

 

   Try ordering Joh or Kow Tom for brekkie in Liverpool or New York, let alone Tennessee or South Dakota.  I have seen much worse.   Stop moaning.  He got what he asked for.

They probably would hate the taste of vegetarians.  Not enough fat & oil like in seals penguins & young albatrosses.  Even us meat eaters are not palatable to sharks or there would never be a body to bury or a survivor to treat.   It is almost always taste and spit.

Agree - especially if you asked for a 'cooked' veggie breakfast !

<deleted> him I say fairly got what he deserved. Vegetarian cooked breakfast? Jog on sport. Obviously the eggs been sitting there a bit probably deliberately to make his photo seem more "shocking" I've seen many Thais cook eggs this way in a wok and splashing oil over the top. A simple mai sook would have got him a better result. Whiny git this is the problem with social media <deleted> want to cry about everything.

Because they are weird and to be avoided at all costs. Thats vegos and Linda burgers! Eggs depend on the brand of veggo.

Actually in the UK vegetarian sausages, bacon and rather bizarrely black pudding are all available, so a cooked breakfast with no meat is perfectly feasible.
