Hi,

I literally stumbled upon this (new) restaurant today. Used to frequent the same by the temple and also at the end of Suthep road, found that the latter no longer exists.

Food was great, seems to be the same as the other ones but when we asked the staff, they said it's by a different owner and not related. Went to their website and saw that this is the only restaurant now? I emailed the contact on the page but have not heard back. Not sure if it's still of the original mission.

It was also odd that we were asked (in Thai) to clear the table and deposit the leftovers in the correct bins. Some others guests weren't asked, nor were there signs asking you to do so.

There is the original and the one in Hang Dong. I don't believe the place at the Airport is related. It was called something else before. There are also rooms there - or there were.

Thanks for that information. I didn't know about the one in Hang Dong by the Night Safari. I just googled and landed on their Facebook page and saw some pictures of the location. I like the looks of it, will definitely pay them a visit.

thanks

It was a while ago

Down a Soi along the Hang Dong Road

If memories serves me there is a water tank supplier on the corner of the Soi on Hang Dong Road

There is a nice veg only restaurant on the Wat Suan Dok temple grounds, in the back.  Open for lunch only i think.  I believe this is the same one that years ago did live at the end of Suthep Road.

Good food, quiet ambience and holy monks wandering around make for a pleasant meal.

And since i've seen this restaurant name, Pun Pun, on many other Thai eating places i suspect the words mean "Eat Eat Good Good", or the like.

This is a little off topic, but I would like to know if there are any vegetarian restaurants in Hang Dong.

If not totally vegetarian then at least restaurants that have a good number of vegetarian items on the menu.

I went past the one at Wat Suan Dok. It seems to be a pale shadow of it's former self now since it got moved to a different corner. No longer do you sit under that large shady tree, and it all looks fairly cramped.

That "large shady tree" was losing business for them. That is why they moved! Or one of the reasons... Every year (I forget which month now), they had to close the restaurant for about 3 weeks when the leaves were falling (on to the plates of customers), and then when all the leaves fell off. Nobody wanted to sit there under the hot sun with no shade at all. So they just closed down completely for a few weeks each year waiting for the new leaves to grow. It lost them money every year. They did have a few umbrellas but it was not enough to stop the rays of the sun.

Is Gonzo's Pun Pun still open? Not vegetarian, but good hearty fare.

I'm not sure UG. I heard he was selling due to some health concerns and moving farther North, closer to his wife's family. But I don't know if has sold already.

Why no try the one at Singharat road before reaching Wat Phra Singh from the north on the right side of road.

There's a little Thai restaurant that do have vegetarian on order. They can comply with vegetarian requests. There's a small tailor shop just beside it.

The price is cheaper than most fully vegetarian shop and food delicious.

Pun Pun Airport is more than a year old, possibly more than 2 years, even. It's all a bit of a blur, lately. :)

It is run by the crew that ran the original Pun Pun at Wat Suan Dok. The Pun Pun at the new location inside Wat Suan Dok is operated by others and the menus are different.

There used to be a Pun Pun near the foot of Doi Suthep on Suthep Road, too, which has closed now. In my opinion, only the airport branch lives up to the standard of the original.

Hey UG

You still in SoCal or back here??

You want, I will make you a good deal on buying The Pun Pun.   You can open up a E Book Shop with it.  My old bones are about ready to call it quits.

Oh and Pun Pun must be successful, as I see them everywhere today, much like 7 Elevens.

SoCal and not financially capable of buying it. Too bad, because I enjoy your food and like the location. At the moment, working on buying a camper van to travel the USA. It is something I've always wanted to do.
