Big Joke saves the day again! Busts Chinese tourists who claimed Tuk-Tuk attack for insurance fraud

Three Chinese tourists from Hong Kong thought they were on a winner when they came to Thailand with a good insurance policy.

Their plan was to pretend they were robbed, put the blame on Thailand and scoop the insurance money when they got home.

But they bargained without the intervention of master crime buster Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal.

The deputy commissioner of the tourist police - known by the moniker Big Joke in the Thai media - and his team swung into action and swiftly proved that the Chinese were up to no good.

And also restored the good name of Tuk-Tuk drivers in the kingdom.

On Saturday the three tourists had called the tourist police hotline 1155 to say they had been robbed by a Tuk-Tuk driver at knife point.

Missing were three iPhones, 2 cameras and 45,000 baht in cash. They said they had got the Tuk-Tuk at Central World in downtown Bangkok to take them to their hotel in the Saladaeng area.

They went to make a report at Thung Mahamaek police station where the tourist police arrived to interview them.

It soon emerged there were inconsistencies in their stories while a check of CCVT at Central World showed they had not got in a Tuk-Tuk - they had hired a white Toyota Yaris from a private taxi firm.

CCTV at the hotel confirmed they were lying - the Yaris arrived and the occupants got out with their possessions visible.

When confronted with the evidence Kai Hay Cheuk, Chin Bor Wu and Tsz Kwan Chun admitted they had lied and were committing an insurance fraud.

Maj Gen Surachet said the case was important from two standpoints - the image of Thailand abroad and protecting the good name of Tuk-Tuk drivers in the capital.

He was glad that he and his team could help and on Monday he received the wais of Tuk-Tuk drivers who showed up at the station to offer their thanks to the Major General.

The three tourists have been charged with making a false claim.

Police have arrested three Hong Kong tourists for allegedly falsified a complaint that they had been robbed of smartphones, two cameras and cash by a tuk tuk driver.

Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, identified the three as Kak Hay Cheuk, 26, Ching Bor Wu, 23 and Tsz Kwan Chui, 24.

They filed a complaint at Thung Mahamek police station at 11.35pm on Saturday that they had been robbed by a tuk tuk driver on a trip from Central World to their hotel on Sala Daeng Road.

They claimed their iPhone X phones and two cameras as well as Bt45,000 in cash were taken by the tuktuk driver.

While registering their complaint, police sensed their story had flaws.

When officers checked footage of security cameras in front of Central World, they saw that the three entered a white Toyota Yaris. At their hotel, footage showed that they had their smartphones.

Surachet said the three eventually admitted falsifying a complaint.

They said they wanted to claim compensation from their tourism insurance policies.

When police checked their hotel room they found the smartphones and the three admitted that they did not have two cameras and Bt45,000 cash that they had claimed was stolen.

Woke up on the wrong side of bed today?
Wouldn´t it be better to see that this person clears up more crimes and cons in Thailand, then everybody has done before.
That´s supposed to be positive, and not been taken away from the so called limelight. He deserves to be taken seriously, and not like somebody that walks around with a sexy sidekick.
And why in the world would we forget about the chinese scammers? That´s why this piece of news exist.

One man crusader!

I could well believe that a tuk tuk driver might attempt robbery... by scamming on the fare.
Outright robbery at knife point? Not so much.
I do not believe these scamming Hong Kong tourists gave the plot much thought. The police are always checking the CCTV cams, and sometimes they are even operating.

No, nothing has changed in respect of those two points.

Congratulations to Big Joke for busting some criminals.

Just a spot of humour,Sandrabbit, old boy.My post was a take off of an old Bob Hope joke.

Meanwhile I will just sit back and enjoy the spectacle of Mr Big Joke garnering to himself quite a reputation.
