Man killed by tamarind branch in Samut Prakan

By The Nation

A man, 64, climbed a giant tamarind tree to trim branches but he was crushed to death by a cut-off branch at his house in Samut Prakan's Phra Pradaeng district.

A neighbour found the body of Somyos Maidam trapped in the tree at 11am on Wednesday and alerted the police from the house on Soi Wat Bang Ya Praek in Tambon Bang Ya Praek.

Rescuers had to use a crane to climb up the tree to remove the branch that crushed his chest and neck.

The neighbour, Phayom Sasomboon, 72, said Somyos liked to cut tree branches. Phayom said he saw Somyos started cutting the tamarind's branches early on Tuesday morning to prevent the branches from damaging power cable.

Phayom said he saw Somyos working until the evening and he did not see him at his home so he came to check and saw the body in the tree.
