Arnon Nampha leads protesters on a march to Government House

BANGKOK — About 100 protesters broke free from their main encampment and marched on the regime’s seat of power Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of the military coup.

While police hemmed in the majority of pro-democracy demonstrators, some skirted the barricades and marched unobstructed down Ratchadamnoen Avenue. Police had yet to stop the protesters as of publication time.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha reiterated on Tuesday that a general election will take place in "early 2019 and no sooner" as hundreds of protesters gathered in Bangkok to demand that a vote be held in November.

Protesters hoping to march to the prime minister's offices, Government House, set off from Thammasat University early in the day but were blocked by rows of police in black uniforms.

The rare protest is also marking four years since Prayuth, then army chief, overthrew an elected government in a May 22, 2014, coup.

The military government initially promised to hold a general election in 2015 but has pushed back the date several times.

Hmm, I think he has four fingers together there. Initially reading the text before examining the photo I had assumed it might have been two fingers.

And in "early 2019" he'll say "later in 2019", and on and on, until he is guaranteed he can return as PM.  Hopefully for life, like his buddy in China.

I suppose if you count December next year as late 2019, then November 2019 could be  classified as 'early'.

Prayut hedging the February 2019 election date.

He says the election will take place in "early 2019 and no sooner" when he could have said the election will take place in "early 2019 and no later."
