Attached is a photo of current status of carport roof insulation. What has gone wrong here? The insulation is just falling to pieces. Does this stuff have a specific usable lifespan and need constant replacement or best not to use at all in the first place. It doesn't seem to be suitable for outdoor use to me, has the builder screwed up? Its about 4 years old afaik?

Thanks for any feedback guys.

Yes ... I am right in the process of having a car port built ... initially I was going to use what you have but were warned that the insulation which is 'roll bonded' to the the sheet metal comes away as yours has.

There is nothing that you can do other than ..

1 ... board the area out

2 ... replace with a better product

I have chosen to use HOLO Roofing ... facebook.com/roofUPVC  ... they are also doing the steel work and I have chosen to use steel piles  ... later I'll do a short topic

That roof batting will wear out especially when open to the elements. You could replace it then sheet rock giving you better insulation as you will have an air cavity plus the batting will last longer. My roof batting is 11 years old and still looks like day one. Personally I wouldn't insulated a carport as most are open on 3 ends and will be as the same temp as a not insulated car port in the shade. The air is constantly moving through the carport. Just my opinion.

What brand was the sheeting you got and where did you get it.

Some years ago I noticed Chang Dao bus station insulating foil was in tatters.

But at the coffee shop I use the film is perfect after say four years.

I will be having a carport with near 60m2 of roof plus 2.5m overhang for verandahs,,,,,,,,total well over 100m2.......so want to get it to be right, be economical as poss, and look OK.

Most local builders will not be paying for the better BLuescope brands

The best is Colourbond.......30 yr guarantee.....a lot!........presumably if they license a dealer who forms the sheets and foils them one would guess the foil is part of the package.

My potential metal roof guy in CM who seems like an excellent and somewhat educated chap and has quite a large works had recommended the second grade of Bluescop called Zaks I believe. 10 year guarantee.

But the fact is the sheets are formed to shape and the foil glued in  (prewsumably before shaping) locally and one guesses there'll be some variation in quality.

So

It MAY repeat MAY be that the better quality makes....done in a reputable supplier........ will last well.

I have felt the sheet roofing underneath at the coffee shop with and without foil it makes a huge difference for such  small layer (3mm?) of insulation, from untouchable in sun to mildly warm. Seems to me messing around with more lining like sheetrock for a carport is a pain.

JAS 21 your HOLO may do me in its translucent form for the 2.7m wide lean to bathrooms and kitchen and store room I plan......Bluescope do but your HOLO has a half inch section I see.....nice and strong.

RDROKIT we're not sure if all makes will deteriorate I certainly hope not as I'm planning for a whole house......but what you say about not bother ing with film for the carport has a point.Nice to stop the sun radiating down on the cars but could live without it.

I would definitely want film for my wide verandah and walkway overhangs so it simply better not peel off ?

Again DigitalB would love to know the brand at your carport

Sorry, it's been several years and was done when I was away - so don't know the brand. The wife used a local builder who was doing the rounds at the time and probably gone by now. Lesson learned I guess.

Fair enough

highly likely to be the cheapest brand possible which may be OK for the car port but not for the full monty.

Just wondering if the exact profile could give the maker away like a fingerprint.

The profiles must obviously be similar but probably not identical.

Perhaps if you could get a good close pic of the end profile I could show it to the roofing co I was speaking of.

Seems a bit of trouble but could save an awful lot of trouble and expense as this is a real problem.

Yes, I think that would work. Thanks.

Mrs J and I went to Architect 18 especially to choose roofing for 'my' shed. At their booth we met not only the owner of HoloRoof but also the manufacturing guy from Indonesia. I was quite impressed with both.

I ordered enough sheeting for my shed roof as at that time I had a steel erector lined up... since then we parted company as he let me down three times ... a nice guy but no idea of keeping to dates.

Whilst there I ask them to come and quote for our Car Port extension. They visited, spent quite some time with us discussing the product. Since then we changed the design and location of the support columns.  Column location is now off the drive and took their advice used screwed steel piles which were driven in yesterday.

Job starts this coming Tuesday.

As an aside the guy from HoloRoof is an Electrical Engineer and has quite a big project on in Korat at present...and his hobby is restoring VWs...

Actually the stuff is 7/16ths ... very strong ... did you see the cement bags piled on top in their FB page

On retrospect for the clear roof bathrooms I’m considering I’d like them as clear as possible to see the sky.. Your
Holoroof looks kinda translucent but far from clear. Nice product though.

Screw I’m metal posts? Not sure what u mean there.
