HOW DO PRICES COMPARE FOR PERFUME CIGS AND MALT WHISKY/RYE

On previous trip s via Bangkok I have seen duty free prices higher than in Thailand for some products

Compered to Doha Qatar or Copenhagen Denmark etc?

Can you buy on arrival, and if so the limit 1 liter and 200 cigs ?

The only thing I buy at duty free is a liter of Johnny Walker Double Black.  Last time I was going thru BKK on my way out of Thailand, I paid U.S.$ 52 at King Power -- several months ago, equivalent to about 1670 baht, which is about 300 baht less than in the retail stores in Chiang Mai.  A couple weeks ago I went through Korea and paid $42 for it at Lotte Duty Fee at ICN.

So, I guess that Thailand's duty free is a little better than "High Street", but just a little so.  In other countries, we can often get little special deals, too, like a nice tote bag or small extra bottle of a different kind of Johnny Walker, when Hubby and I are travelling together and buy two liters.  They never seems to have these nice deals in Thailand.

no customs/security checks/breakage problems.

300 baht saving to have all the hassle.  If money is such a problem buy a cheaper whisky.

PS;  BTW all Johnnie Walker Black products are just a blended whisky.  A double black is just a standard JW Black (which is just a rip off of the JW red) blend with a smoke "taste" added to it and costs less than £30 on an English high street (or maybe a Scottish tourist trap). A rip off whether high street or "Duty Free".

It's not really a "hassle" to save 300 baht.  I buy the whiskey just before boarding the flight, and the cats get as much pleasure from the playing with the bag as we get from the whiskey.

And you're right, normally we drink a cheaper Scotch "at home".  The Double Black is a nice indulgence while traveling, kind of like ordering eggs Benedict for breakfast -- not something you usually do at home, but fun to do while on holiday.

Why not indulge tourself properly, Lagavulin is often available at duty frees nowadays, though not at Chiang Mai last time I looked.

I'm always fearful of plopping down a wad of money for a single malt that I've never tried.  I like a nice smoky scotch.  Does this fit the bill?

I'm nice, I smoke and I am Scottish, do I fit the bill?

PS;  You are quite right re buying expensive malts.  A very individually acquired taste - always try before you buy. (that does not include me BTW!)
