A five-year-old girl in Surin lost her left arm when her sweater got entangled in the back wheel of a motorcycle driven by her mother on Thursday evening.

Chalongkrung Suwanbutr, a rescuer in Surin’s Muang district, said the accident happened on Pattamanon road in Tambon Nai Muang of Muang district.

Chalongkrung recounted the girl’s plight in a Facebook post at 7.46pm on Thursday. The post was widely shared by Facebook users who expressed sympathy for the girl.

Chalongkrung said he made the post to warn parents to be careful when driving motorcycles with their kids riding pillion.

He said the girl’s pink sweater got stuck in the wheel, which pulled in her arm before cutting it off.

He put the arm in ice and rushed the girl and the arm to Surin Hospital but it was too late to reattach the limb.

The girl was in a safe condition but remained under close watch by doctors.

Tragic.  The mother has to be heart broken, and filled with guild over this.

Why should the mother be filled with guild ( sic)?

Seems to me the toddler ( like most) got too inquisitive.

Very very sad ACCIDENT

When suddenly faced with the cosequences of his actions, he realised that it was quite obvious that this was a reckless and dangerous thing to do. Unfortunately, nobody but him will learn from this mistake as everyone else will believe that it won't happen to them.

Mai pen rai to a fault.

It's a statement from the rescuer.

And the rider was the mother, "she".

It is the nature of a parent to feel the pain of their child, and the guilt of coming up anything less than perfect. Accident or not, the parent will feel that they could have prevented it.

I wonder how she could of prevented it

You would think that if they wanted to keep this from happening in future, they would say exactly how it happened.  I have worn many a sweater, but no part of it (sleeve or bottom hem) would be anywhere near a motorcycle wheel and I can't think of a circumstance where it might be; I would need to be in some sort of really odd position for my upper body to be anywhere near a wheel.  So was it a long sweater (well below waist length), or tied around her waist with parts hanging down, or what?  If you want parents to be careful, perhaps telling them what they are being careful of would be nice.

Sorry you missed it but that was meant to lay the blame fairly and squarely on the parent for their actions which caused this accident

No matter

That and being a tad more responsible with any child especially with one so young

But of course we have to take the financial situation into account as I have been told before

Chalongkrung is one of the rescue workers who attended. As posted - his intention was to warn others of the dangers. The mother was the driver of the m/c.

Seems that Chalongkrung did the best he could by packing the arm in ice and getting it to the hospital. Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain. Maybe the hospital was not equipped for this type of surgery.

Yes, I know, but that was in response to someone else saying the mother probably feels guilty, right?  And on top of that is the guy making a vague "be careful" statement without specifying exactly what action he thinks should be taken.
