Former forensic institute director Porntip's house broken into

A thief broke into the house of Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan, the former director of the Central Institute of Forensic Science, on Monday and made off with ornaments and cash worth Bt250,000, police said.

 

Pol Capt Akkarawat Ruangkulsrikasem, deputy inspector of Bang Chan police station, said Porntip filed a complaint at 8pm that her house on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 112 in Bangkok's Saphan Sung district was burglarised.

 

Akkarawat said the thief entered the house by climbing over the back fence and unlocking the sliding glass door at the back of the house and stole B100,000 in cash and gold and platinum ornaments worth Bt150,000.

 

Porntip told police that she left the house at 1pm and left her small dog in the house compound. She returned at 8pm to find that her home had been broken into.

 

A CCTV camera in her house was out of order.

 

Police have yet to check a CCTV camera of a neighbour and security cameras at the front and back of her soi.

I lived in Sammakorn Village for many years and often saw this lady at the local market. Luckily, I never need her expertise. Anyway, the security in this mooban is typical for Bangkok.

 

One year there was a rash of motorcycles being stolen from the parking lot near the main entrance of the village, right across from a security guard post. Come to find out, a young Somchai had been pushing the bikes through the entrance and telling the guards, he was out of gas.

 

However, the security guards were pretty good at removing lizards and snakes.

BANGKOK — Police on Tuesday morning were looking for a burglar who broke into the house of a preeminent forensic scientist and made off with jewelry and money worth tens of thousands of baht.

 

Celebrity forensic scientist Porntip Rojanasunan reported a burglary Monday night at her home in a gated community in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 112. Police on Tuesday were gathering evidence such as fingerprints and DNA samples.

I wonder who will be given the task of checking the fingerprints and DNA samples?

Perhaps Khun Porntip needs to be doing that herself.

 

I remember on numerous occasions in the past when she was at odds with the police over the scientific examination of evidence. She invariably won.

Very true.

Perhaps Porntip thought a CCTV was a case of 'overkill', as most of her work was done in the path-lab, where most of the subjects weren't very likely to move.
